The Democratic party is not just deciding who its candidate will be going forward. It’s deciding who and what it is. What it stands for. Anointing Joe Biden was not a good idea, and anointing Kamala Harris is no better. Back room decisions - all the good kids falling in line and any rebels shut out - is not a genuinely democratic process. An open convention, an actual contest, is the only way to air before the American people some actual ideas and policies that will inspire their vote. Walking in lockstep with someone who has not yet uttered one policy position is not the way to win. It doesn’t serve her, it doesn’t serve the party, and it doesn’t serve the country.
