We're one of the project partners supporting high school math teachers and students develop their very own walkSTEM video highlighting the mathematics of penalty kicks. We loved working with The @girlscouts of Northeast Texas and STEM Center of Excellence to put on a MathFinder camp! The campers and research teams at talkSTEM and @SMU all had a ton of fun doing a Math Walk at the archery range, where the Girl Scouts practiced their archery skills and used the MathFinder app to hone their math skills at the same time! Everyone can play the MathFinder game on their iPad (free download in the App Store here apps.apple.com/us/app/mathfin…) MathFinder is an app that takes math out of a formal educational setting, and puts it out into students' worlds. This week's historic #ArtemisII flight ignited our curiosity about space travel. Artemis came more than 50 years after Apollo 13, but what do they have in common? Materials, for one thing! Our video at The @FrontofFlight Museum talks about the materials on the Apollo mission, but did you know that both Apollo and Artemis had heat shields made of the same material called #Avcoat? The difference was in the building process: Apollo's was applied by hand into honeycomb cells, but Artemis II used a mechanized process. Today is #NationalWalkingDay, but it's always a great time for a STEM walk! A STEM walk is when you take a little extra time to observe STEM in everyday life, and go the extra mile to ask a question. The #walkSTEM initiative was developed by our founder to encourage everyone - students, teachers, kids, adults - to observe, appreciate, and ask questions about the STEM around them. You don't need fancy equipment. You don't need a PhD. You just need a curious mind. We encourage anyone and everybody go try a STEM walk (or ten!)
