@Jake_armstrong9 Bizarre that it was actually a good signing. Just totally misusing him. Guess we’ll find out after summer. Howe is also known for taking a while to bed players in

@talks_tyne Yep I’m very curious to know the process in signing him because from the outside it looks like it was a panic move now.

Same response early on the season from Howe was that Woltemade was a 9 and that’s how he viewed him when signing him. Not ridiculous to say when he’s Germany’s number 9. Now being used as a 10, not that he can’t play there, but again I question whether we are getting the best out of him.

@Jake_armstrong9 I’m so curious to know if there is a long term plan with him. We don’t sign players without Howes backing so is it they haven’t had enough time with him yet or did they not do their research? Even early season his general performances weren’t great but he’s clearly talented

I’ve always held the opinion that Woltemade hasn’t been good enough physically and is struggling with the pace of the league. But it’s also true that he isn’t being used effectively enough. IMO he is a number 9, a very unique one but still a number 9. He needs to be used that way long term.

@RichySouthern I’d say it’s more the system than the style of player, man to man all over the place means if someone drops off our defence there’s a lot of space. Tonali could do a similar job but no one sits in our midfield they’re all asked to be box to box

I feel like we need a proper old fashioned defensive midfielder. Someone in the Ngolo Kante mould to do a load of donkey work effectively. We are just so wide open it’s actually crazy. I’m not too clued up on current players who excel at that. Maybe that Brazilian kid who went to Chelsea and wasted a couple of years of his development

@hoothoot81 Different talents need different environments. Minteh was massively successful, if its physical improvement you need the yeah lower leagues are great. But there’s a lot of different needs with development, not a one size fits all

Still baffles me why Sanusi, Hernes & Cordero didn’t go on loan to a UK side, makes more sense when helping adapt for first team football, also way better for Cordero learning the language and culture. #NUFC

@wuds100 I think the academy has come along massively. Man City changed up everything in there’s and it took nearly 10years to supply the players they do now. League position for youth teams is also pointless as it’s about development not results

@MattW36565526 With no Europe you don’t need a massive squad. This is the opp to cut some fat off and raise the ceiling. I.e. - back up fullback who can play both sides instead of 2 (or a CB who can play FB) - sort strikers out, so one leaves one comes in - a creative player - replace Gordon

@NUFC360 He new coaches is huge if true. The only change we’ve had back room has been th set piece coach. It’s really important those guys change to develop your game, each have their own specialities #nufc

Eddie Howe has been backed to continue as Newcastle Head Coach but with changes needed ▪️Recruitment - A change to more data driven targets, off the radar. ▪️Acadamy Pathway - Al-Rumayyan is obsessed with player development, investment is going into improving my the scouting network. ▪️New Voices - new arrivals on the coaching staff may be seen soon, new tactics looked at. @MsiDouglas | #NUFC

@RichySouthern Yeah I get it. There’s defo a balance to it but think it’s basically clubs like us, Villa etc just hitting the ceiling. Do everything to get Europe, have to spend on here and now to stay there or you won’t get the money and even one small mistake sets you back years

@talks_tyne Getting a lot of the same replies so forgive me for just copy and pasting this in response 😅
Richy@RichySouthern

@mrmojorisin1975 There’s something to learn from these clubs is what I’m suggesting. We’ve stagnated and now started to regress. While other clubs with significantly less resources continue to improve.

@StevieG_0918 I really like Jones but he wouldn’t be a Tonali replacement. You’d need a good amount of athleticism next to Bruno in this system

If Tonali leaves, Curtis Jones doesn’t solve Newcastle’s midfield problem. 👀 Without Tonali, Bruno is the only real progressive midfielder, and we lose all balance. I find it Hard to see Jones building as a pivot in a 4-3-3. We need a DLP at 6, not another carrier. #NUFC ⚫️⚪️

#NUFC #LFC #Mercato #PremierLeague

@ConnorRC10 You really don’t need to sell a Burn or Murphy, their worth more as squad player than the small fee you’d get for them. As much as they shouldn’t be starting a majority of games you have to replace them and there’s bigger priorities than a backup when we have no Europe

🚨This would be my list of players to go this summer. - Schar - no new contract. - Burn - 1 year left, get some money for him. - Murphy - 1 year left, get some money for him. - Willock - Can get £20m+ for him and easily replaced. - Osula - Price is high now at around £40m so sell with buy-back option. - Gordon - Wants to leave so sell for £70m+. Maybe sales if can get good money and they want to leave - #NUFC Tonali Livremento Do you agree? Or keep or sell others?

@CraigHope_DM There’s the best with the likes of Klopp, Pep, Arteta etc. play the best football, manage the best players and lead consistent title winning teams Then the next level like Emery, Howe, Poch, De Zerbi etc can overachieve and do great thing but missing one key part to be top

I’d say it takes an elite coach to make a Brazil international from the Joelinton he inherited. Or to make England players from uncapped Burn, Gordon, Hall & Livramento. Isak’s improvement. Murphy being the player he was last season. Taking a team from 19th to 4th in 18 months…
marty lawrance@marty_lawrance

@CraigHope_DM @NE5westend What do you class as an Elite Coach? Howe is a pretty good premier league level coach, but not in the elite bracket Like Pep, Simeone, Mourinho or even Rafa. I believe the "Elite Coaches" sometimes meet up, does Eddie ever get invited?

@Nolberto099 @Tactx_ 25 points lost from winning positions Shows we’re not controlling games, fairly obvious when you watch us we have no players to keep the ball or consistently create. (Bournemouth are second and have similar issues) GK and ST would help but there’s fundament issues need fixing

@talks_tyne @Tactx_ We have lost 12 might be 13 games by a single goal. That tells you that fix your goalscorer and keeper then totally changes everything. Goals change games and mentality/confidence.

@Jake_armstrong9 Doesn’t feel very sustainable but does make me wonder why he hadn’t reverted to something like this earlier. Even if the second half wasn’t great, being a bit more pragmatic should have been a fallback a while ago, the teams kind of built for it especially with Elanga now

@danthemanoslo @David_Ornstein @TheAthleticFC If Wilson can supply him and help develop this team away from a bunch of runners then that raises the ceiling. But if he’s simply here to carry on Howes work then it’s not a great sign…

@Nolberto099 @Tactx_ I wish those were our biggest problems Overall we can’t control games, combine that with Howes preference for physicality and a clear lack of technicians to create or retain attacks. Were very easy to play against now the rest of the leagues physical levels are similar

@talks_tyne @Tactx_ If we had even an average PL keeper and had a half decent goalscorer (arguably if Wissa didn't get injured) we would be in the CL places.
