It’s 2024, and as I scroll my feed on social media, the same question keeps popping up in my head. “Wait, really? Is this for real? Please tell me this is a joke. Is this a joke?” But it’s not a joke. None of it is a joke. It’s not a laughing matter. The global spike in antisemitism is shocking and appalling. Intifada courses in American universities? Public display of Jew hatred on streets throughout Europe? Physical assaults of Jews in American streets? How is this the world we live in? How are we back here again? On October 7th, the world witnessed the most barbaric acts we’ve seen in our lifetime. Not only did the world know what happened, they even watched it. They watched it in HD from Hamas first hand testimonies. That’s right. Not only did Hamas do what it did, it also recorded it so it can proudly play that video later. And yet? Somehow, and it’s genuinely hard to believe, there are still so many people who deny what happened on October 7th. How did we get here? There is, however, one major difference between this wave of Antisemitism and the many waves throughout history. Now, we have social media. There is no hiding now from the painful truth. There is no saying “We had no idea.” The evidence is conclusive and overwhelming. Antisemitic attacks have increased by hundreds of percentages since October 7th. Just when you thought the world would stand with Israel as it eliminates Hamas before they can attack the U.S. and Europe (an intention they don’t hide.), the world did exactly the opposite and attacked Israel. It’s easy to have your moral clarity clouded by all the lies. It’s easy to start doubting whether the truth is really the truth, when so many people are telling you that lies are the truth. It’s so easy to blur the difference between good and evil when so many tell you that evil is good and good is evil. But it is our, the civilized people who know morality and have a moral compass, responsibility to speak out, to stand for the truth, and to do our part to not let this wave of antisemitism lead to where previous waves led, to systematic violence against Jews, and worse. Sitting back and watching this happen before your eyes without saying a word makes you complicit. Don’t be that guy. Speak up. There is, of course, one other difference between this reality and the reality the Jews have known throughout our history, and that is the state of Israel and the IDF. The Jews can fight back this time. The Jews can defend themselves this time. The Jews won’t be led to the gas chambers this time. The Jewish people will be fine. We’ll be more than fine. We’ll come out stronger on the other side. But that doesn’t give you, or anyone, the right to remain silent. It just doesn’t. This reality is sick and twisted. It is, quite frankly, shocking. I can’t believe we’re here again. I believed it when I said ‘Never again’. I was wrong and that breaks my heart. But please, don’t normalize this. There is nothing normal about repeating antisemitic tropes. The same tropes, different generation. This is not normal. Speak up. Whether that’s by taking to the streets, writing letters to our representatives and institutions that are accepting this reality, or even using your own social media, just speak up. As a moral person with a heart and a conscience, you would expect your child to speak up in the face of evil. You should do the same. Speak up. Not for us. For you. We, the Jewish people, have been here before. Many times. The only thing all those times have in common? The people who tried to annihilate the Jews are gone and the Jews are here. We’ll be fine but if you don’t speak up now, you’ll have to live with that silence for the rest of your life and you’ll have to tell your grandchildren one day, that you were silent as the world scapegoated the Jews again. Whether you speak up or don’t? It won’t affect us. We? We will dance again. Do your part. Speak up. 🇮🇱💪🙏✡️
