Suppose 10,000 monkeys take NEET-PG exam (or one persistent monkey takes it 10,000 times). There are 200 questions. The reward for correct answer is 4 and the penalty for wrong answer is -1. If the monkeys don't attempt, they get 0 marks. Let's assume the monkeys haven't qualified MBBS and randomly mark all 200 questions. Expected value of a random guess = (probability correct × reward) + (probability wrong × penalty) = (1/4)(+4) + (3/4)(-1) = 1 + -0.75 = +0.25 So what will be the group average of this monkey group ? If we simulate that, we get an average mark of +50. (see pic for distribution, done with R) Sure, many monkeys will score negative marks, but the group average is still positive. Now let's turn to human NEET -PG doctor with -40 marks. Government says he/she's competent. If a doctor can't even beat the average score of a bunch of monkeys, does it matter if they are "competent" because government says so? Forget MD/ MS, why shouldn't their MBBS be declared null and void ?

Oops! 🙂 The IISERs are great young institutions, doing some excellent work in teaching & research. Do visit their campuses, if you get a chance. Upcoming 'National Science Day' (Feb 28) is a great opportunity. And yes, unfortunately they not as well known as the IITs. They do need more PR for sure. (Note - I regularly do my part 🙂...and have been tweeting about IISERs and @IISERPune for the past many years! ... @ClasslessCULE Mohali ranks 2nd just after IISc in Nature Ranking - Academic section in biology. Overall, after Pune, & Kolkata it's the better choice among rest.

Apart from IISER KOLKATA, TIRUPATI, PUNE, BHOPAL I don't others are good enough, despite all chhamiyabaazi KIIT/KIMS still offers good research facility

@iamPattnaik @BBTheorist Agreed. IISERs need good outreach. The issue is that outreach here is very limited, like school visit to IISER Mohali, or the science-fest Tattva. But considering the age of IISERs, I hope they get due recognition in future. We are already excelling in Science and Nature ranking.

@BBTheorist KIIT's marketing skills are far better than those of IISER.

I was telling a relative of mine (who sent his child to study at KIIT, Bhubaneswar) about the research of my cousin who studies at IISER, Mohali. He immediately said, “No one knows what IISER is. KIIT is better and more popular than IISER.” 🤦🏼‍♂️
