the idea that you can just keep hitting the “be more economically left wing” button in hopes that voters will not notice you have positions on social/cultural issues they strongly disagree with is honestly quite condescending

by nerdy they mean conventionally attractive sociable man with glasses who occasionally plays a video game

Play a single video game for a year 9 hours a day to get $5M. What game are you playing?
Per them, this would raise roughly $405 billion in 2026. Let's just tackle the first policy - roughly 260M Americans live in households that make <$150k/yr. To give each $3k/yr, that's $786 billion. You actually cannot make a strong welfare state by only taxing 1000 people!

U gotta be atheist to be a proper safe homo in 2026 cuz woke or whatever I guess

The Left historically had some very dumb and bad anti-parent beliefs from the 1960's, and passed down urban legends of multitudes of gay and trans kids being subjected to abuse. But those beliefs are wrong-- indeed, parents are really the ONLY people who love their children.

I think trans rights are a civil rights movement. I do not think civil rights movements always win in the end, but I do think they are worth supporting even if they are currently unpopular. I also don't think "trans rights" are currently unpopular. I think a few specific and highly controversial trans issues are unpopular (gender-affirming surgeries for minors, trans women in women's sports), largely because they really are novel and we really do not have all the answers and I think progressives have alienated people by insisting they "follow the science" when the science is still emerging and not yet anywhere near totally conclusive. I think trans people having equal access to housing, employment, health care, and so on are obviously civil rights issues, Democrats are on the right side of them, and they should focus on those and point to Republican cruelty on the trans rights that most Americans support -- which has the added benefit of helping many many more people.

I mean genuinely given everything going on at the moment why in they world are you even polling the trans sports issue right now unless you’re trying to gin up centrist culture wars issues to deflect from the populist anger over affordability and authoritarian overreach?
