Persia Educational Foundation and Film Buzz Festival have joined forces with The Courtauld Institute of Art in London, The Bridge and Tunnel, as well as The New School’s New University in Exile Consortium in NYC, and Diaspora Arts Connection in San Francisco to offer an international short film festival focused on the #WomanLifeFreedom movement in Iran.
“WeAreOne#iran” Short Film Festival is a tri-city tribute to Iran’s struggle for women’s rights.

One of our outstanding judges, Tara Aghdashloo (@taraaghdashloo), is a writer, director, poet born in Iran. As a former journalist and documentarian, she focused on Mid-East and international politics, art and culture. In recent years she’s been writing, directing and producing independently before transitioning to film.
Her debut short film THE RIDE was commissioned by BFI Network and premiered in Cinequest Film Festival and has been selected in festivals internationally.
Her second short film BRIDGE was commissioned by BBC and premiered at BIFA and BAFTA Qualifying Norwich Film Festival in 2023 and continues its journey.
Her third short film EMPTY YOUR POCKETS was produced by OPC Productions and Intermission film and has recently completed. Her narrative feature is in development supported by Telefilm Canada.
Tara’s writings have appeared in numerous publications such as The Guardian, Financial Times, The New Inquiry, Harvard Business Review, and many more, and her poetry collection was published in 2011.
Tara’s a vocal intersectional feminist and an advocate for human rights in Iran and MENA region, a social justice advocate, and regularly appears on panels and leads workshops on inclusivity in film.
