New translation out in @hammockmag: Kaaksparsha, a haunting, riveting story from 1977 by Usha Datar, that inspired the eponymous 2012 Marathi film. Thank you @ankushd14 and the Datar family for trusting me with this important work! Read here: hammockmag.com/kaaksparsha

This finally happened after almost a year, it's amazing how serendipity works out :) Little did I know that this simple post I wrote about my grandmother's work which was translated into a movie would turn out into this. Set in pre-independence Konkan in Maharashtra, this is a rich, layered tale of the invisible horrors of widowhood and a searing critique of patriarchy and cultural beliefs that snatch away a woman’s agency. The story captures what women at the time would have dealt with all their lives. I believe that this story can raise awareness even more so today as these traditions would still be prevalent in India. Kaksparsh will now be available to readers around the world :)
