The Hangor-class submarine utilizes Chinese-made engines instead of the German MTU 12V 396 SE84 and Stirling-cycle AIP system that was developed in 90s by Swedes. Stirling engines have moving parts like pistons/crankshafts, whereas Fuel Cells developed by DRDO are chemical and nearly silent. For the Pakistan Navy this is only source for credible second-strike capability, since it cant afford Nuclear Attack Submarines.
