It’s depressing how many journalists of colour have recently left or been pushed out of the Cdn media industry. It’s even more maddening to see white male journalists use their privilege to attack, discredit and force out the few voices that remain.

Not sure what's going to happen to Vice today -- probably nothing good -- but here's a thread of the work I'm proudest of:

The Cdn media landscape has become toxic for women of colour. I know at least 7 Muslim women who left the industry in the last year - completely disillusioned. They felt unsupported & alone in their newsrooms. They were scrutinized internally, dealt with hate externally.

I have been in the industry for more than 2 decades, and frankly, it’s been a struggle. But I continue to believe in the power of journalism and that diverse opinions are impt to society even if you don’t agree with them. But tbh I don’t know if the industry cares about diversity
