I think people who derive meaning from their jobs are probably 1-2 percent of society. I've worked in hospitality, retail, construction and corporate sectors during my life and everyone I've met are there for money and security. Never meaning. It's just not really a thing

everyone makes fun of us for being cringe or whatever but if you’ve ever worked in an office you’d know if you pick any millennial at random they can figure out a computer problem or fix a printer while everyone else is like how would i know i’m not IT

I have noticed I get minimal engagement for my Japan posts which is disappointing considering that most people who travel 1. Don’t even register the things I’m noticing 2. Even if they do, they don’t do public service by sharing it on X formerly known as Twitter.

if i end up getting a drivers license in germany they will take away my NJ license, which the germans do not understand that i need bc it is my ID in the US. it’s not JUST a drivers license.

@FischerKing64 That’s why humanities are called “liberal arts “. They are meant to be studied and pursued by free people (not people who would otherwise be wage slaves in our society or literally slaves in the ancient times).

Young people who really love literature or philosophy should nevertheless study engineering or math if they’ve got the aptitude.
You can read the books on your own time - and internet communities will be more enlightening than the dead end types teaching this in university anyway. And with a viable degree you will never be broke.

Guys, I actually like the American system better and I think it’s more sustainable long term.
I just dislike Americans ignoring the obvious fact that the reason this bloated european system has survived this long is exactly because it’s fine, people like it, and aren’t poor in any sense of the word.

Western Europeans have *democratically* settled on a high taxation, high public spending system. Unlike in the US, we have multiple political parties all with their own economic program to choose from.
Do you really think someone who pays almost half of their income in taxes monthly is unaware or where it goes and doesn’t question it? Yet there is very little appetite for changing it.
Maybe ask yourself why.
