Duhr… die Antwort liegt genau da, direkt in meinem zweiten Screenshot: `Fischer Wohnung=en`. Neben Fischerskämpe, Westpreußen. Macht Sinn.

Help! On this map of Danzig, Elbing & Marienburg in Westprussia from 1789, what exactly do the little "upside down pin"-looking icons represent? They seem to be only positioned next to waterways or shorelines. Thx! Source: davidrumsey.com/luna/servlet/d…

An ASMR channel, but it's just a first-person POV of someone quietly/idly tracing old German church baptism records with a pencil and explaining how to recognize what they say. ✏️📄

@GermanUnlocked Ja, I've found a couple of Webers among my ancestors, plus 2 others who were referred to as »Webergesellen« (Journeyman Weavers) and even a couple of Webermeisters! :)

@natomuiri @Ancestry I have multiple research trees there & I've personally paused my paid subscription w Ancestry multiple times. Every time, all of my data was preserved. You can't view their record images any longer tho. Before I did it the first time, I called them to ask a human JIC. 😂

Interesting note at the very bottom of this Baptism Record from Garnsee, Westpreußen on 19 Feb 1799: »NB: ist ein Frühkind, da dieses Paar erst d 7th October 1798 ist copuliert worden.« "Nota bene: this is an 'early child', since this pair was just married on the 7th of Oct."

Nice map of languages+dialects in East Prussia in the early 20th century. // From this I can see that all of my Prussian ancestors likely spoke a Low German Dialekt, & I'm pretty sure my 3G grandpa (Czarnitzki) came from that patch of Polish south of Marienburg (above the ①).

#AFStunde: While researching my East Prussian ancestors this week, I learned a new Job Title/Berufsbezeichnung aus den Ostgebieten: Kossath: genwiki.genealogy.net/Cossat Seen below as "Kussäthen", "Cossäthen" & "Kossäth". A subject living on an Estate & given his own small home/Hof

tfw u finally find the marriage record of your ur-grandpa you've been searching desperately for & u should be excited, but u're actually disappointed cos it says his wife's maiden name is something normal like "Fischer" or "Klein" & u were hoping for something more interesting 😇

I long wondered what could explain the geographic distribution of my family name, "Deutschendorf", in Prussia (the yellow pins). I recently discovered that overlaying a High- vs Low-German dialect map provides a good explanation: They probably all spoke Low German. #AncestryHour

I suspect this specifically indicates she received housing in something like a "senior home". Here's a German Wikipedia article about the program, which consisted of local assistance (called "Ortsarme"), and regional assistance (called "Landarme"): de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenverb…

Finally I realized it is "Ortsarme", literally "Town poor". This is the name for the very first "social welfare" program instituted in most German provinces in 1871. It seems Auguste had no surviving local relatives, & this indicates she received public assistance of some kind.

🧵: I finally solved a minor German genealogy mystery that has been bugging me for about a year, namely: What is the final word in the "Name of the Deceased" column of this 1880 burial record for my 3G grandma, Auguste Deutschendorf, from Rosenberg, West Prussia? #AncestryHour
