The graphic shows UK duty increases on 1 Aug 2023 The latest HMRC alcohol duty receipts data was released today. Between Sept ‘23 & Aug ‘24, year-on-year receipts were: ◦£1.3bn lower overall ◦Wine: £238m lower ◦Spirits: £757m lower ◦Beer: £320m lower ◦Cider: £24m lower

Sunak and his ‘now the UK is an independent nation…’ claptrap: The UK trousered almost twice as much in wine duty in 2021 than all the countries in the EU put together. And now he’s put UK duty up 20% for most wines.

This graphic from @ChateauBauduc is fantastic. From 1st August, if you spend £6.50 on a bottle of wine, you are getting 40p's worth of wine and paying £3.75 in tax. At £15, it is £4.40 worth of wine and £5.17 in tax. The balance goes to packaging and distribution. @wstauk #wine

Thanks to both @martinbamford @LAMTownsend for all the effort they are putting in to get this resolved. @thameswater’s response has been pathetic. The damage they are doing to the local economy through constant road closures is unbelievable.

This flood on Elmbridge Road, Cranleigh has been in place for several months, despite constant reports to @SurreyCouncil. It's right outside Ringo Starr's former home. Contractors arrived Friday, closed the road for a couple of hours to pump it away. Flood returned that night.
