No sois conscientes de lo que se está cociendo en Etiopía. Está conformando uno de los montajes militares más espectaculares del mundo. Tiene más de 500.000 efectivos activos. La mayor mano de obra militar en toda África. Todo esto sumado a un presupuesto en defensa de 3.700 millones de dólares. Se ha convertido así en el mayor ejército de África Oriental. En el contexto actual de tensión étnica en el país y una posible invasión a su vecina Eritrea para conseguir acceso al mar, estos datos se vuelven todavía más llamativos. Etiopía es una de las economías de más rápido crecimiento en el mundo, manteniendo tasas promedio de crecimiento del 11% anual en las últimas décadas.  Un país de más de 120 millones de habitantes que mediante la combinación de inversión masiva estatal y ayuda externa está fomentando una industralización y modernización enorme. Para mí, hay tres claves. La primera, es que el gobierno ha destinado gran parte del presupuesto y préstamos (especialmente de China) a la construcción de carreteras, ferrocarriles, aeropuertos y represas, como la Gran Presa del Renacimiento Etíope.  La segunda, es la apertura y reformas bajo el liderazgo de Abiy Ahmed. El país ha iniciado un plan de 10 años para liberalizar la moneda, abrir sectores a la inversión extranjera y crear su primera bolsa de valores.  Y por último, Etiopía tiene una mano de obra joven y dinámica. Es el segundo país más poblado de África y posee una fuerza laboral joven y barata que atrae a industrias manufactureras, como la textil. La clave de su crecimiento en el futuro dependerá de si es capaz de mantener la estabilidad en el país y de si consigue mitigar su fuerte dependencia agrícola, mermada por las sequías y el cambio climático. La mayoría de etnias que conforman el país se odian o se alían entre ellas en función de sus propósitos y el Cuerno de África es la región del mundo más vulnerable a las hambrunas. Hay que estar pendientes de Etiopía.
