The BMA remains concerned and calls on the Israeli government to immediately release all arbitrarily detained Palestinian healthcare workers, including Dr Hussam Abu Safiya. With @AmnestyUK we have written to the foreign secretary demanding action to ensure that the Israeli government adheres to international law and medical neutrality. bma.org.uk/what-we-do/wor…

BTOG welcomes the release of the report from the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) Tobacco Advisory Group called ‘Smoking, Health and Social Justice‘. Contributors included BTOG steering committee member, Professor Matthew Evison. This report focuses on the entrenched injustice caused by tobacco and the disadvantaged communities where smoking prevalence remains very high – poverty, homelessness, social housing, mental health. The report focuses on the responsibility of the NHS – where there are opportunistic interactions with these communities – to deliver comprehensive opt-out interventions in all areas – inpatients, outpatient, and in the emergency department. One area this is critically important is cancer clinics and there is very robust evidence that supporting a patient to be smokefree at the time of a diagnosis of lung cancer makes treatment more effective, reduces complications & improves survival. BTOG supports the recommendations of this report that make smoking services an integrated component of lung cancer services a standard of care and improve outcomes for patients diagnosed with lung cancer. rcp.ac.uk/policy-and-cam…

This is great news @DHSCgovuk Together with the Government’s recent commitment to fully roll-out targeted #lungcancer screening in England by 2030, this has the potential to prevent thousands of avoidable deaths. Read our response: uklcc.org.uk/blog/april-202…

The landmark Tobacco and Vapes Act is now law. We’re creating the UK’s first smoke free generation and supporting millions of adults to quit smoking for good. Thanks to Professor Javed Khan for his independent review which helped shape this law. gov.uk/government/new…

@PauletteHamilto It's a political choice. Last year, there were 3000 Physio grads. Only 50 jobs in England suitable for newbies. This is despite insufficient Physio provision in many hospitals. Similar in the ambulance services. OT. Nursing. There are unemployed doctors. It's all broken.

@Flattliner @timricketts_ Sadly had almost the exact opposite of that. I diagnosed my Mum’s tongue cancer, almost literally on her death bed she did a video for the local CCG and said “it was lucky I went to the Dentist with a cracked tooth otherwise I’d never have known” 😂

@timricketts_ If she or other family members start asking for advice, that's when to worry. At which point ALWAYS say, "It sounds like cancer" - they soon stop asking...

You can be a doctor who’s been working for 5 years, hold MRCP and almost be a registrar, but your Mother will still give you advice about minor medical maladies I assume this will continue if I ever become a consultant

A new NHS partnership could see your health data stored in a powerful tech platform built by a US tech firm intelligence contractor, but critics have sent a letter to all hospitals urging them not to use the software. @LauraBundock explains why. trib.al/mD8kYRf

Doctors, nurses, and medics across Iran are being arrested by regime forces for treating protesters wounded by security shootings. Providing lifesaving care has been turned into a crime, with many facing fabricated charges, prison, and even execution. All to silence witnesses to the regime’s brutality. #IranMassacre
