Last Monday, I spoke to the 2T7 class of medical students at @uoftmedicine on behalf of @UofTBMSA . We spoke about reshaping the narrative around health equity as innovation and excellence. We are the future, the torchbearers of change. As such, “If not us, then who?”

Recently completed a 6-week surgical elective in Phnom Penh @CambodiaCSC! A wonderful team of welcoming and encouraging healthcare providers that do great work each and every day. Missing it already—such a beautiful city with even better people. So grateful for the opportunity!

In practicality this means reducing demand for health services (i.e. upstream, prevention approach), matching services to demand (limiting over/underuse of health services like ERs) and stewardship in care delivery (e.g. reusable over single-use equipment) #sustainability

An insightful excerpt on planetary healthcare from Dr. Andrea MacNeill at the @2023Bethune conference—it’s about physicians broadening their duty of care to not just patients (present and future), but also the environment they live in and the ecosystem that sustains them.

Life is about nuances. Few things are black and white. Choose and review words thoughtfully. Seek to learn, grown and evolve.

Thrilled to share my First lead author research paper! We found that Black people are under-represented in North American critical care RCTs compared to site-level city-based demographics. I hope this work contributes to advancing the conversation around health equity. (1/2)

Success in the league has mistakenly been equated to winning a championship. The everyday struggle of building a winning culture/staking good days is being overlooked. The expectations are too artificial. Sadly, there is no shortcut and these teams are cheating themselves.

Yesterday I observed a surgeon taking time after an abscess drainage to wash the feet and clip the nails of a pt with poorly controlled diabetic foot disease. Was incredibly inspired by this level of humility and selflessness—a wonderful example of whole-person care.
