Hip hop used to be relatively intelligent. Had to have a quick wit and scholarly vocabulary to pull off some of the hooks and flows. Like all things, once the "Formula" for beats was perfected, they just kept sampling and repackaging.....very few modern hip hop artists are anywhere near Ice Cube, Ice T, hell even Vanilla Ice, Eminem, Biggie, 2Pac....there are definitely more before them but this was my generation. I mean Grandmaster Flash actually had gripes and told stories....
