@Bubblesnconkie Stay inside. I was in Alberta a couple of years ago during the wildfires. It was awful. My sister who lives there has suffered permanent lung damage.

PSA! Pokemon Friends 🫁 Please be patient with me. There is a pretty huge fire in my area and my lungs are not doing well. I will Spin as much as I can, but I just can't get outside. #PokemonGO #CancerSucks

@amancalledj @jmsnftzptrck Same. My architecture lectures are 3 hours long. Handwritten notes due after class and graded as a substantial part of their marks. Attendance great and retention better. They don’t complain.

@jmsnftzptrck I've chosen to eliminate screens and make my students write everything in class on paper.

I feel like if you’re an educator your options re: AI are basically: get into it (evil), pretend your students aren’t using it (fiddling while Rome burns), or lose your mind (currently I’m here)

Just tried to fast catch Zamazenta in a remote raid and lost the encounter 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ It'd jumped out of the ball at least 10 times already, yes, but seriously?? That's what I get from neglecting my coffee

@babydocwhit @1ssve As a passenger even. Using my phone in my husband’s car while he’s driving and each time I touch the phone it interrupts. I turn off Apple CarPlay in my car entirely.

@HakataQueen Stations in Japan are tough because they’re so large but if you zoom in on Google Maps you can locate the elevator access.

Also Japan is the only country where I’ve never been offered help with lifting/carrying luggages. Even in Paris which has the highest concentration of rude people, some random would just come through and help me carry my stuff in the stairs 🥲
Emily@writerofscratch

It's only when I travel with a bunch of luggage or someone who is injured or has a disability, that I notice just how inaccessible/inconvenient some stations in Japan can be. Shibuya Station's South Gate, for instance, lacks both an escalator and an elevator.

@coupleofgaming Fantastic views of Fuji. You’re so lucky. It’s more often obscured than visible. Planned an excursion there a few years ago and never saw it at all!

@coupleofgaming The lids are pretty spread out. Assume you’re using the map. Often located remotely as places sponsor them to attract tourists vs putting them in already busy areas.

Have you decided where to drink in Tokyo yet? Shibuya — Skip the area right around the station. Head to Okushibu or Shinsen instead. Great vibe, very popular with locals. This is where the real Shibuya is. Ebisu — Stylish restaurants all in one area with great access. Even locals dress up a bit to go out here. Meguro — Nakameguro and Jiyugaoka are perfect for bars and izakayas. Take a walk along the Meguro River at night. You’ll see what I mean. Ginza — Have dinner around Namiki Street. It might feel upscale, but you can still find some reasonably priced places if you know where to look. Shimbashi — The drinking area around SL Square is loud, packed, and amazing. A true local office worker hangout. Gotanda — Not very well known among tourists. But the izakayas around the station are full of locals and seriously good. Shinjuku — From Golden Gai to Omoide Yokocho, bars line the streets. It gets very crowded, but that’s part of what makes it so lively. No matter which exit you take, you’ll find plenty of izakayas. You’ll never have trouble finding a place to drink. Ueno — Ameyoko at night is on another level. Chaotic, lively, and incredibly fun. Ikebukuro — You can spend a whole day just around the station. Every budget, every type of food, all in one place. Honestly, it might feel even more crowded than Shibuya these days. One more recommendation. This one is for people who want something different. Sugamo — Known as “Harajuku for grandmas.” You won’t see many foreign tourists here. If you go, try Tokiwa Shokudo. They serve all kinds of classic Japanese dishes. Delicious, affordable, and very local. The menu is only in Japanese. A bit challenging maybe. But that’s part of the experience. Which area would you pick? Let me know your favorites too.

@coupleofgaming Yes! One of the secrets! Access to either side last I was there. Nice view. Otherwise I prefer Tokyo tower to Skytree for a better view of the surroundings. At Skytree there is a place where you can show an international passport and pay a bit for a shorter line.

If people want to know why Gen X is always mad, it's because we had to replace our record collections with a tape collection and then replace that with a CD collection that we slowly replaced with an MP3 collection and now need a subscription to listen to music.

@nrqa__ Friendly reminder that books are written by people who eat, sleep, and spent months or years of their life on those pages. "Free" has a cost. It's just paid by someone else. Buy the book.
