Off night shift and am driving with my oldest son four hours west so he can meet with our Stake President for his (hopefully) final interview before his mission papers are submitted to Salt Lake. Gotta love large geographic Stakes.

@tbruce15 “I have more to boast of than ever any man had. I am the only man that has ever been able to keep a whole church together since the days of Adam…Neither Paul, John, Peter, nor Jesus ever did it. I boast that no man ever did such a work as I.” - Joseph Smith

@Parley_Preaches Maybe, we do Zoom for High Council… but for a Missionary Interview, I’ll happily drive the 8 hours in a heated/air conditioned SUV… Canadian Rockies in May requires both.

I think the Lord purposely leaves things unclear so that we can prove that we want to choose Him. The Bible attests to this when it says we are to walk by faith and not by sight.

@23wjohnston Like Moses and Peter, who were also Prophets and Apostles… they were God’s voice on the Earth, yet, they too erred. Should we condemn everyone but Jesus? To do so would be to invalidate the Atonement and the Grace of Christ.

@23wjohnston I’ll add that Brigham’s beliefs on African Americans were rooted in the standard opinion of the day amongst many Protestants … Brigham Young being a Reformed Methodist prior to his conversion. He was wrong, and so were the majority of religious leaders of the day.

@23wjohnston People also hated Moses. Prophets tend to be unpopular. They are certainly fallible but I’d put Brigham or Joseph’s record against anyone in the 19th century on impact for good.

PIMO is respectable if you are struggling with your faith but still understand the value of strong religious institutions. It’s utterly cowardly when you’re pretending at church and then anonymously tearing it down on social media. I fear more for the soul of a liar than for those who leave over honest disagreements.

I mean, come on! An ancient submarine? Sealed top and bottom? A stoppable air-hole? Sixteen glowing stones touched by the finger of God on a mountaintop to see in the dark? How did Joseph Smith think he'd get away with this crazy story? Turns out, every detail he described has been uncovered in MULTIPLE ancient texts which were UNKNOWN in 1829! Enter, the Jaredites! youtube.com/watch?v=RJ_isi…

@tbruce15 @BenBird53920553 I just wanna see the stone box Moroni made of cement and stone that safely held the gold plates and other stuff for 1400 years. Smith said it's in the New York Hill Cumorah easily visible above ground on the west side near the top of the hill. It HAS to be there... but it's not.

Todd Bruce is so wrong. Mormonism hinges on one question: Was Joseph Smith a true prophet?
Todd Bruce| LDS 🇨🇦@tbruce15

I have been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ my whole life. Not a great member, but I attend and serve. Born in the covenant. I am a millennial raised with all Gen-X siblings well away from any Mormon Culture hot spots. My Stake is roughly the size of many mid sized states. I went to multiple EFY’s, Treks, Youth conferences. I Attended a semester of BYU-I prior to my mission. I was married in the temple, served in many heavy callings, ie bishop, Stake, etc… none of this really matters though cause a testimony is personal and requires the act of exerting fairy to keep the fire burning. As a nearly boomer, I am still learning and relearning aspects of church history that were different than I expected as a youth. None of it has changed my opinion of Joseph Smith. I love the man. But if I learned something tomorrow that made me question his choices, it wouldn’t matter one iota towards my testimony of Jesus Christ. My Sunday lessons, my seminary lessons, my scripture and my prayers, were all centred on Jesus Christ and His role as my Saviour and Redeemer. This knowledge has been revealed in the last days thru Joseph Smith and subsequent Prophets and for that I am forever grateful. Whether you feel cheated by not having the full story in some aspect of Joseph Smith, Church Restoration, Church Finances or Legal Proceedings involving the church or lack thereof, I encourage you to refocus your testimony on Jesus Christ and then put in the work that Faith requires. No, hold on, I dare you to put in the work, and see if anything if too difficult for Jesus Christ. Your life will change. While you are at it, maybe give some grace to people who made knowledge of this miracles available to us. Or don’t do any of that… but please stop making your deconstruction about anything other than your desire to distance yourself from the church of a Jesus Christ because you stopped doing the things and stopped focusing on your relationship with Jesus Christ.

@tscottme Absolutely! “Wherefore, by their fruits ye shall know them.” — Matthew 7:20 Verse 23 is a gut punch to ensure we are following Christ and doing His will.

I grew up in the church. Born in Nauvoo, Illinois, Utah Went to CTR elementary school Taught an entire congregation on Mother’s Day President of the Deacons Studied at Emma Smith University Never had more than one piercing First time I heard about Joseph’s polygamy was after the bishop mentioned it when I confessed my spiritual wifery to him. My experience isn’t unique.

@tbruce15 Millennial who is Gen X adjacent = Near Boomer? The generational math seems wrong somehow. As an earlier Gen X who dated and was friends with actual very late season Boomers in my youth, I do not in any way consider myself to be a near Boomer.

I appreciate the Catholic perspective because, Catholics and Orthodox are the only who can claim any kind of lineage dating back to Christ’s Apostles. If you are right, any protestants then would be wrong, if you are wrong, then the Protestant’s are wrong with you, since reformation does not constitute authority from God, only a restoration can do that. My concern is the deviation from Core Doctrines of Christ’s original church, which is debatable depending on your interpretation or sources used. Joseph Smith being the Prophet of the Restoration follows a standard found in the Bible, and I believe, provides a restoration of knowledge lost over time to those Core Doctrines found in Christ’s original church, along with a restoration of Authority. We can haggle over finite details, but the crux of this isn’t about details and how we interpret them, it’s about Jesus Christ and our willingness to follow Him and be changed by Him, and be made better by Him. It’s not earning anything, it’s learning to be like Him. My natural man is sarcastic, ornery, and downright petty at times. Christ encourages me to be better than that, even if I don’t listen sometimes, that’s no reflection on my desire to do better and be better. Cheers brother. Hope you have a blessed day and look to Christ in all that you do.

@tbruce15 @DrWumbology I’m not calling you demons for the record! Your view is JS’s view and it departs from orthodox Christianity in a big way. You can argue that you are the orthodox way and it’s me who has departed, but objectively I don’t see that at all. Thanks for your respectful reply. 2/2
