The Cream-spotted Tiger moth is one of the glories of late May when the first of the summer flight takes to the wing. It is said to be notable for the fact that, if handled, it makes little effort to escape, relying upon its colours to disuade predators (which it thinks you might be) from attempting to taste it. If it does urgently try to escape, you might once have been thought to be a witch! Various Tiger moths are the subject of much folklore, especially in the USA, where there are multiple species not found elsewhere. A great deal of this lore is based around their famously furry and attractive caterpillars, or "Woolly Bears". Counting the bands on an "Isabella" moth's caterpillar can predict the severity of the coming winter - and the wider the bands, the colder the winter will be.
