@TheSnowDreamer It has intuitively felt grimmer down south weather-wise than in the north in recent years, would be really interested to know if it's actually true

Well UK wide averages are not always representative. For most of the south it was near average, if a bit duller than average it was also rainy. This seems like a frequent pattern in recent years with more unsettled weather displaced further south from the typical northern position.

@TheSnowDreamer Yes but January was the 5th sunniest ever in the UK so swings and roundabouts.

@s8mb If AGI = human-level competence in all domains (which is what it used to mean) then could absolutely get perfected robotics but not superintelligence.

And if you’re assuming AGI -> perfected robotics, I don’t really see why you’d assume that but *not* AGI -> superintelligence. And if we have superintelligence, unemployment seems like a sideshow.

It seems to me that most discussions of whether AGI will cause mass unemployment conflate AGI with some equivalent breakthrough in robotics. Unless that happens, why won’t returns to physical tasks just rise and rise?

@edwest You can cycle from Guildford to Shoreham, does that count?

You should be able to cycle from Norwich to Oxford, or Cambridge to Dover, via London, along segregated lanes. Right now, while we have loads of money to spare, would be an ideal time too

@FondOfBeetles Great piece. It's very much religious. One of Darwin's big lessons was that humans are just another twig on the tree of life. 200 years later that still hasn't really, properly sunk in, imo, and it's still seen as a bit shocking to baldly and unapologetically say so

This has happened because female cyclists, supported by their male colleagues and athletes from other sporting disciplines, and with information about their rights, the law (and a bit of science), came together to demand they be heard.

@FondOfBeetles Enodgenous T: it does nothing! T from a syringe: So potent you'll be banned if we find even a nanogram in your urine sample The word "endogenous" is doing a great deal of rather dubious work in all this... 🤷‍♂️

So what on earth can he possibly mean when he says that performance is not proportional to natural T level? More, that is it *obviously* not and anyway who thinks otherwise must be stupid or something.

Richard Budgett, medical director of the IOC, is saying here that sports performance is not proportional to natural (“endogenous”) testosterone level. What do we know?
Sean Ingle@seaningle

IOC medical director Richard Budgett adds: "one of the things the framework does is move us on from just considering testosterone. Because obviously, it is perfectly clear now that performance is not proportional to your endogenous your your inbuilt testosterone."

@MForstater @ripx4nutmeg This is such an odd claim, in many ways. Just one: "Less favourable treatment" begs the question. It assumes that PBs/XSHs work to relieve gender dysphoria. We have no idea if that's true. It's entirely possible that "watchful waiting" is in fact the more favourable treatment
