Minnesota Teamsters are endorsing Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) in the race for governor. With more than 50,000 members and retirees across the state, Teamsters Joint Council 32 is proud to be one of the first unions to show its support for Klobuchar in this race. “Senator Klobuchar is undoubtedly the most qualified candidate to restore Minnesotans’ confidence and trust in government,” said Tom Erickson, President of Joint Council 32 and Central Region International Vice President. “She has always fought to prioritize workers’ interests, led with integrity, and possesses the necessary experience to effectively serve Teamsters as governor.”

THANK YOU AG ELLISON When a lawsuit was filed challenging Minnesota’s ban on captive audience meetings, we got to work defending this pro-worker law. The Court of Appeals dismissed the lawsuit and today, the Supreme Court left that dismissal in place. This is a great day for MN.

Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien, General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman, and the Teamsters Human Rights and Diversity Commission held a ceremony today to unveil a new bust of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at Teamsters Headquarters in Washington, DC. The bust now on display honors the special relationship shared between Dr. King and the Teamsters Union during his lifetime and beyond. Dr. King was a supporter of many Teamsters causes, which the union recognized by naming him an honorary Teamster in 2023. With this new installation, Dr. King’s legacy with the Teamsters Union will forever be part of our story. “Dr. King didn’t just fight for civil rights. He was one of the most important labor leaders in our country’s history, and we are honored to help preserve his legacy,” O'Brien said. “I hope this permanent installation reminds rank-and-file Teamsters of the sacrifices made by generations before — and serves as inspiration to future generations to forever carry the torch of making Dr. King’s dream of equality a reality for all workers in America.”

Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien and International Vice President At-Large Lindsay Dougherty had a productive meeting on Monday with FCC Chairman Brendan Carr on Teamsters priorities for the Paramount Skydance Merger and key issues impacting the Teamsters Motion Picture and Theatrical Trade Division. @FCC either should memorialize Skydance’s pro-worker commitments as a merger condition or encourage the parties to reach an agreement on how best to protect workers post-transaction. The Teamsters appreciate the commission taking workers’ concerns seriously.

Costco Teamsters nationwide have voted to ratify a new national master agreement. The contract secures higher wages, a 22 percent increase in pension contributions, and over 40 critical language improvements for 18,000 Costco Teamsters. Workers will benefit from stronger seniority rights, expanded vacation benefits, protections against surveillance, and enhanced rights for shop stewards. Over the next three years, the Teamsters will focus on building worker power at Costco. The key to winning an even stronger agreement in the future is organizing every nonunion worker at the company. Current Costco Teamsters interested in joining the fight and becoming an organizer are encouraged to contact their local union.

TEAMSTERS GATHER IN MINNEAPOLIS TO REVIEW STATE OF THE UNION Teamsters leaders, officers, business agents, and stewards from across the Midwest met in Minneapolis on Thursday for the third of the union’s biannual regional meetings. Focused on the growing strength and momentum of the International Union, speakers highlighted ongoing organizing efforts and contract battles – including key campaigns at Amazon, DHL, United Airlines, Costco, and other major employers – and the need to prioritize rank-and-file members' voices. The Central Region meeting comes just days after the union announced it has added 50,000 new members in the past two and a half years under the O’Brien-Zuckerman administration. “We are determined to keep making this union bigger, faster, and stronger,” said Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien. “We’ve organized tens of thousands of new members, secured historic agreements, and shown the world that Teamsters won’t back down when it comes to protecting our members. We have the best leadership team we've ever had. I love the fact that we get up every single day to represent the most important people – the 1.3 million rank-and-file members that we have the privilege to represent.” Attendees heard reports from the General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman as well as updates from department leaders at the International, covering Organizing, Data and Contracts, Political and Legislative Action, Human Rights and Diversity, Training and Grants, and Strategic Initiatives. Regional insights were provided in opening remarks from International Vice President Tom Erickson, President of Teamsters Joint Council 32 and Teamsters Local 120, who focused on critical contract fights and organizing successes for Teamsters in the warehouse and logistics industries. The Central Region meeting is part of a series of fall meetings, with a final gathering set to take place in Dallas later this month.

“If the Painters ever find themselves in a fight, you’ll have the full power of the Teamsters Union standing behind you.”   Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien helped the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) kick off its convention on Monday in Florida, thanking the Painters for being one of the first unions to throw its support behind 340,000 UPS Teamsters during our historic contract fight in 2023.   O’Brien thanked IUPAT General President Jimmy Williams and all delegates for their brotherhood and solidarity in the labor movement, with the convention aptly themed, “One Union, One Family, One Fight.” The Teamsters General President also encouraged all Painters to work collaboratively with rank-and-file Teamsters to help take on the world’s greediest employer, Amazon.   Like most building trades unions, the Painters help build Amazon facilities. “If Amazon is fine with union labor to build its facilities, they should have no problem having a union for their warehouse workers and delivery drivers,” O’Brien said. “Corporate America is our common enemy. Jeff Bezos and Amazon are some of the biggest, most lethal threats facing American workers today. COSTCO WORKERS IN VIRGINIA OVERWHELMINGLY VOTE TO JOIN NATIONAL CONTRACT Today, Costco workers in Norfolk, Va., voted overwhelmingly to join the Teamsters national contract at Costco, securing strong job and retirement protections under the Western Conference of Teamsters Pension Plan. For nearly 300 workers at the location this will be their first collective bargaining agreement. This group, who voted to join Teamsters Local 822 in December, marked the first organizing victory at the wholesale retailer in over two decades.  “We are excited to work under the protection of a strong Teamsters contract that will provide us with job security and retirement benefits that we deserve,” said Torrey Felton, a forklift driver at Costco and a member of Local 822. “This agreement gives us the same protections enjoyed by over 18,000 of our co-workers nationwide, and the pension benefits we’ve secured will be life-changing for all of us.”   Negotiations for over 18,000 Costco Teamsters covered under the National Master Agreement are set to begin next week.
