Strengthening Kenya’s Electronics and Semiconductor Manufacturing Ecosystem Kenya is making steady progress in developing its electronics and electrical manufacturing sector, moving from an import-dependent market to a growing regional production and assembly hub. Companies such as M-KOPA, EADAK, and Sun King are assembling millions of smartphones annually, while new facilities like K-Elec are producing TVs and refrigerators locally. The semiconductor research and development initiative at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology is also helping position Kenya within the global microelectronics value chain. Today, I accompanied Cabinet Secretary @honkabogo during a consultative meeting with manufacturing sector representatives led by Tobias @TobiasAlando, CEO of the Kenya Association of Manufacturers @KAM_Kenya, to discuss strengthening the sector. The meeting reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding local manufacturing through policy streamlining, targeted incentives, and regulatory reforms. A Joint Sector Working Group bringing together government and industry will also be established to develop a comprehensive policy framework and address bottlenecks such as component import processes and regulatory delays. We encourage manufacturers to take advantage of the growing opportunities in Kenya’s electrical and electronic manufacturing sector by investing in local production, innovation, and skills development to position the country as a competitive regional hub.
