i did something similar. i told my husband i wouldn't take his last name (neither of our mothers took their husband's name so it made sense to us) but i kept tripping out over having a different last name than my future kids
when i changed my mind i did it in secret and surprised him with the paperwork for our first wedding anniversary and he was sooo happy it was the cutest thing ever

I wasn't sure if it mattered when I thought we weren't going to be able to have children, but I changed my last name during my pregnancy with our first child. I did it in secret and put the paperwork in a card for him for Valentine's Day. he was so happy and it was so worth it.

I'm going to be harsh - shocking I know - but this is a choice.
You do not have to give up your hobbies, interests, passions or identity when having kids. This modern notion of needing to neurotically helicopter over your kids and sequester them away in "kid centric" activities is bizarre and stupid and boring. You can just take your kids to your events and activities. You can just do uour hobbies. You can tell your kids you're busy and to go and play independently.
You'll be happier for it and your kids will be more resilient and capable.

I know a woman with a husband who only works hard. He works all day leading his very successful contracting company, and then he comes home and does housework, helps with the kids, helps his wife, then he goes to sleep. He never takes time for himself, never kicks back and watches tv, never goes golfing, never scrolls. They’re very wealthy, they have 6 kids and she’s pregnant with a 7th, and she’s very hot and happy. If you want a hot happy wife that gives you lots of kids, you have to be like this, there’s no other way

and if you want to get into the history of it u can't ignore that there were generations of family available to help raise children whereas now it's oftentimes just down to mom and dad. so that help has to come from somewhere
