First time he's left the house since December. Uneventful hospital visit which I suppose is a blessing of sorts. #longcovid #mecfs

After several weeks of #longcovid #mecfs crashing, it warms my heart and gives me a bit of hope to see him with the energy to episodically work on his science projects

@royalhansen Does Brussels have dedicated bike commuting roads like the ones in the Netherlands? Biking is a way of life for some people in European cities!

@royalhansen I shoveled driveways and mowed lawns too! Wonder what future generations will think of stories of snow shoveling?

As a teenager I made 40 dollars by shoveling 4 neighbors' driveways each snow storm. I'm both happy and sad to see this innovation :)

Winter Storm Fern has descended upon NJ this morning and my @yarboglobal autonomous snow blower went into action. This is going to be a great test to see if this robot can handle a 6,000 sq.ft. driveway during a major winter storm. I'm inside sipping a coffee while it's doing its job and so far so good!

@ClassicLearner @Houseofyogi Assimilation was not required. They were born in America, one grandfather grew up in a part of the country where everyone spoke another language other than English. He got a job and provided for himself and his family. He lived among people who also spoke his language.

@ClassicLearner @Houseofyogi That is not true. Both of my grandfathers were born in America before 1965 and they both fluently spoke foreign languages even though they were second generation immigrants.

Slavery had been the norm throughout all of history, for thousands of years, impacting all people, including millions of Europeans enslaved in the Ottoman Empire - which had institutionalized the sexual slavery of European women. Yet children are led to believe that slavery was a uniquely American activity. Now why do you think that is?

@eigenrobot I previously received and have also bought a set of New Basic Readers published by Scott Foresman Co in about 1940-1950. I’m looking forward to using them with young readers in my family.

pulled the entire 10 volume set of a 1964 children's reading collection from a used bookstore for $18 i regard this as a colossal win the introduction is worth reading as a contrast to contemporary pedagogical philosophy. implicit here is a colossal cultural loss

after my first find i wandered to my favorite bookstore in Minneapolis and found another children's anthology, this one first published in the 1920s (unfortunately incomplete) ~$15, BOGO as with the other collection, the prefaces contain much ancient wisdom lost to our time

@argvee Thank you for the in depth analysis of canon law and the unlikely routes that a lay person could follow to lead the Church of Rome. My observation is that the church has set the standard for leadership that requires both knowledge and practical experience.

This is not a political post. I was curious whether church law would allow this, and how. The pope must be a bishop, a bishop must be an ordained priest and elevated by a pope, so there would be a chicken-egg problem here. Turns out that if elected, a lay person’s (a non priest) acceptance of the papal election by the college of cardinals confers the office on that person, and the Dean of the college of cardinals (Batista) in this situation can technically ordain / consecrate a lay person as the Bishop of Rome. It must be done in person, in conclave. It would require a creative interpretation of Pres Trump’s personal qualifications, but this would be possible. But that person must also be a baptized Catholic male (Pres Trump is not Catholic), but the church recognizes baptism performed in any Christian context as long as it follows the use of water and the Trinitarian formula (Pres Trump was baptized in the Presbyterian faith, which qualifies), and can become Roman Catholic through a conversion process, which could be accelerated technically and performed prior to elevation as Bishop. But, Bishops are priests, and priests are required to take holy orders, which in the 21st century canon law only allows a married man to become a Catholic priest in narrow circumstances: (1) converting from the eastern rites, Anglican/Episcopal clergy, and similar; (2) the wife is no longer alive. (I couldn’t find any other reasons). Given Pres Trump is married and his wife is still living, the only route would be becoming ordained clergy in a qualifying religion, such as the Episcopalian church. This would require conversion, a graduate degree in a qualifying discipline, approval of the diocesan committee, and being ordained by an Episcopalian Bishop. So, the path to Pope would be some creative interpretation of personal qualifications during these steps: election by college of cardinals, conversion to Episcopalian church, be granted an honorary graduate degree in qualifying field, get approval from an Episcopalian diocesan committee to become a priest, be ordained as an Episcopalian priest, convert to Catholicism, fly to Rome, enter conclave, accept the election, be elevated to Bishop of Rome by Dean of the college of cardinals, choose a name, accept homage from the cardinals, white smoke goes up, get dressed, get announced. So…. Not impossible? Having said that, nothing is stopping anyone from putting on the outfit!

@SaraSchon @MattWriter Of course he wants to see you. He apologized like 3 times for messaging you out of the blue. Why else would he text someone with impressive abs after he put a boxing glove emoji into your contact in his phone?

@BiblicalBeauty Technical Support or IT Helpdesk are skill-based and have upward growth opportunities which do not require a degree. Software quality assurance and testing also has no degree requirement. Business administration and bookkeeping is also a good opportunity.

No smart aleck responses, please… What trades are there that a young single woman could learn that could actually make good money without getting a college degree? I want my sons to begin learning things like construction, welding, electrical work, etc., as they get older, but is there anything that would suit a young lady that could actually produce a good income if she needs it? Seriously, I’ll just block people who make stupid comments like “women should just get married” or “women can do anything men can” or anything else I find irritating. My patience with obnoxious behavior ran out a while ago. 😄 Seeking genuine responses only.
