The situation has also brought attention to the growing trend of destination weddings, where locations are often chosen for aesthetics without full awareness of their local importance. It remains unclear whether those involved were aware of the significance of the site. However, questions are now being raised about the responsibility of local authorities and property managers in ensuring such sensitivities are respected.

Schools Shut in Parts of Nainital Till April 27 Amid Rising Wildlife Threat In view of increasing human–wildlife conflict and the suspected presence of a man-eating tiger, the Nainital district administration has ordered the closure of schools and anganwadi centres in several villages. District Magistrate Lalit Mohan Rayal has directed that all government, private and aided schools (Class 1 to 12) and anganwadi centres in affected areas remain closed on April 25 and April 27 to ensure the safety of children. The order applies to villages including Jyoli, Bhaduni, Dogda, Dolmar, Suryajala, Mora, Jyolikot, Suryagaon, Ganja, Ranibagh, Do Gaon, Alukhet, Balyuti, Haidi, Songoth, Kathgodam, Bel and Naisela. Authorities said that students in these areas often have to travel through isolated paths, forest routes and hilly terrain, which poses a serious risk amid increased wildlife movement. But this is not sudden. For the past 8–9 months, incidents of attacks, sightings and fear have been repeatedly reported from across Uttarakhand. From women being killed while collecting fodder, to children being picked from near homes, to villagers being attacked in fields, the pattern has been visible for long. And yet, the response has largely been reactive. The decision has been taken under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, prioritising children’s safety. Officials have been instructed to ensure compliance and coordination between forest department, police and disaster management teams. But the ground reality remains this is no longer about one village or one district this is a growing crisis across Uttarakhand and it is still waiting for a response that matches its scale.
