At the Savannah Region Town Hall Meeting of the Resetting Ghana Tour, I highlighted some of the initiatives the John Mahama-led administration is taking to empower Ghanaโs youth through practical action, not just promises.
From the National Apprenticeship Programme, which is equipping 500,000 young people with hands-on skills, transport support, certifications, and startup toolkits, to the Adwumawura Programme, which is investing GHโต100 million annually to support 10,000 youth-led businesses, government is laying a strong foundation for sustainable youth empowerment.
With improved monitoring and mentorship through the National Youth Authority (NYA), National Entrepreneurship & Innovation Programme (NEIP), and other stakeholders, we are building systems that create opportunities, support innovation, and secure Ghanaโs youth's economic future. #YouthPower #JobsForYoungPeople

At almost 70 years since independence, Ghana has just started to assert its sovereignty over its own mineral resources and is seeking to reclaim its sovereignty from some foreign investors. Nobody says that foreign investment is bad per se, and nobody says that we are banning foreign investments; all that we are saying is that we now have local companies that have built their capacity and capabilities over time and are able to better manage some of these minerals for the betterment of our country. It is heartwarming that some very influential people are wading into this debate and supporting the government to allow for local indigenous businesses to invest in our mineral resources.
After almost 70 years, we can at least reasonably afford to test our ability to manage and maintain sovereignty over some of these interests.
The question is whether we can continue to build on where the others have left off, and that should be the litmus test.

The opening ceremony of the Youth Diplomacy Institute Model African Union (MAU) Conference took place yesterday at the Foreign Service Institute.
In my keynote address on the theme "Youth in Diplomacy: Shaping Africaโs Future Through Policy and Leadership," I emphasized the transformative power of collective action. I expressed my belief that Africaโs immense potential can be realized through the implementation of strong policies and effective leadership. Central to this vision is the active and immediate involvement of young people, noting that our future relies not just on the promises of tomorrow, but on the leadership we demonstrate today. #YouthPower

Last night, I arrived in the Oti Region for the #FreePrimaryHealthCare initiative. My first engagement was with the frontline implementers of the program, our dedicated and selfless health workers.
I took time to listen to their concerns, experiences, and suggestions as we work together to ensure the success of President John Mahamaโs flagship #FreePrimaryHealthCare program.

A while ago, I welcomed the World Health Organization Regional Director for Africa, Dr Mohamed Yakub Janabi, for discussions on strengthening Ghanaโs health system.
I noted that our focus must now go beyond long life to ensuring quality life for our people.
Since 2025, we have undertaken major reforms in the health sector, including increasing budgetary releases, uncapping the National Health Insurance Levy, and ensuring that the NHIA receives its full allocations, ring-fenced strictly for health-related activities.
We are also investing in the fight against non-communicable diseases through the Ghana Medical Trust Fund and the establishment of specialised non-communicable disease units. In addition, we recently launched the Free Primary Healthcare Programme.
As support from the Global Fund for vaccines and critical medicines winds down by 2029, we are taking steps to ensure that, beginning January 2030, Ghana fully budgets for and finances these vaccines and essential medicines.
Dr Janabi commended Ghanaโs progress and stressed that a healthy population is essential for productivity and economic growth.
He also underscored the need for Africa to strengthen local medicine and vaccine production, reduce dependence on imports, and invest more aggressively in tackling non-communicable diseases.

On Wednesday, I held a highly productive meeting with His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, in Abu Dhabi.
Our discussions centred on a strategic partnership to transform Ghanaโs energy landscape. We have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the oil and gas sector, with a specific focus on UAE investment in storage facilities within Ghana.
We discussed the need to diversify our energy portfolio, aiming to reduce our dependence on crude oil and achieve long-term energy stability through cleaner, alternative sources.
We also addressed global security, and I firmly conveyed Ghanaโs solidarity with the UAE regarding the complexities of the Middle East conflict. We are united in our determination to see a swift end to hostilities so the world can focus on sustainable development, innovation, and Artificial Intelligence.

President John Dramani Mahama has cut the sod for the construction of a 24-hour Economy Market in Bimbilla as part of his โResetting Ghanaโ tour of the Northern Region, fulfilling a key campaign promise captured in the NDC manifesto.
The project, which forms part of a nationwide initiative to establish modern markets in all 261 districts, is aimed at stimulating round-the-clock economic activity, strengthening local commerce, and deepening the link between agricultural production and market access.
President Mahama noted that markets remain central to economic life, serving as key hubs for trade and circulation of money, and stressed that โfarming without access to markets undermines the economic value of production,โ underscoring the need to connect farms, markets and households.
The Bimbilla facility, identified as one of the largest model markets under the programme, will include ten warehouses, clinics, fire and police posts, banking services, crรจches, and food outlets to support 24-hour operations and improve safety and convenience for traders and consumers.
Given Bimbillaโs strong agricultural base in yam, maize, beans and groundnut production, the market is expected to reduce post-harvest losses, stabilise prices during peak seasons, and improve incomes for farmers through expanded processing and distribution opportunities.
President Mahama further emphasised that the project will generate jobs and strengthen the agricultural value chain, while calling for quality execution to ensure the facility serves generations to come. The District Assembly will oversee its maintenance and management through a dedicated market administration system.
As part of broader clarifications on the Free Primary Health Care programme, he reiterated that tricycles and motorbikes being distributed are not ambulances, but are designed for outreach, vaccination delivery, and community-based preventive healthcare.

Earlier at the IMF/World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C., I met with Anna Bjerde, Managing Director for Operations at the World Bank, to discuss Ghanaโs progress and priorities.
Despite recent global shocks, Ghana has remained resilient, supported by prudent policy decisions, buffers, and strong reforms.
Increased gas production has also helped cushion the impact of rising energy prices.
We are now addressing inefficiencies in the energy distribution sector through private sector participation to improve performance.
Anna Bjerde reaffirmed the World Bankโs support and stressed the need to resolve energy sector challenges.
