@dextweets1@achrosen@towhey You just brought to mind the train you could ride through toy land at Eaton’s. Toys were not piled high in view! They were on display and then magically appeared under the tree on Christmas!
@tenaj_11@achrosen@towhey Breakfast w Santa! The events… even the flagship Santa at the bay for years was just incredible. You see the decline in my children’s yearly photos..:( they kept changing the space and making it smaller and smaller..
@achrosen@towhey You have described my childhood. I remember the Georgian Room at Eaton’s and the Arcadian Room at Simpson’s. Hudson’s Bay Co. is now American owned. Just not the same.
@towhey It’s very sad, and very bad news.
Shopping there now, is hit and miss. 😢
It’s our last one, left.
(I still miss the Eaton’s days- the elevator ladies, with the white gloves)
and the Georgian Room elegance, on Queen Street)
But I digress…!
@ravenousreader I too grew up 🇨🇦with the largest orange at the toe of my stocking. My mother followed in her parents tradition. To my knowledge the orange was a real treat as the abundance of fruit did not exist in the grocery store. I don’t see those large oranges in the market today.
My mom ALWAYS put an orange in our stocking. We always complained about it and she would say “fruit in winter is rare, and you should remember that. That orange is to make you grateful for what abundance we have.”
As an adult someone told me this is an Irish tradition, and that many families do it. No one else I know did this outside of my aunts and cousins.
Anyone know more about this?
@BowersWrites I’ll follow you wherever you go. I follow you on Instagram. Thoroughly enjoy you and Annie. Your commitment to Canada 🇨🇦 brings me such joy. I too will be leaving this platform soon.
Lost over 50 followers today alone. Just a friendly reminder of some of the other places you can find me, as well as 🦋, although I haven't yet committed 100% to leaving here.
Would Nixon have gotten away with his crimes under the new Supreme Court decision on presidential immunity?
Presidential historian @BeschlossDC takes a look at the court's latest controversial decision and what it means for the future of American democracy.
@lexisfriend The clarinetist from the Lawrence Welk Orchestra, Henry Cuesta, was part of the trio that played 🎶 at my wedding reception I loved watching the show growing up.
@BowersWrites I go to the British Shops here in southern Ontario for my British favourites. Perhaps there is one nearby you in Nova Scotia that has the goodies you are looking for. 🤞I’m sure your British dinner will be fantastic.
Hosting a British-themed party on Saturday, exactly as the 'international food' aisle at Sobeys runs out of British food... Short of venturing further afield for my Hola Hoops and Jaffa Cakes, I guess Imma have to rethink...
I'm really sorry to ask, but Twitter is doing that thing again, Where it's automatically unfollowing people , please can you have a quick check to see if you're still following us, Thank you.
@BowersWrites Don’t get discouraged. I love your passion for Canadian history in your adopted country. My dad was a “Joe Boy” entertainer in the RCAF during WW2. He wrestled with not being in the “fight”, but his contribution was an integral part of the Canadian Military experience/morale.
That's unfortunate. I'm having a low-confidence day, I've logged onto Twitter, and I've just seen a Tweet that, despite not being directed at me, has knocked my confidence even more. With my writer/historian inferiority complex strong today, I think I'll head off again 🙃
@sinead_ryan My grandfather and his four siblings left Ireland 🇮🇪 in the mid 1890’s. 3 went to the US🇺🇸 and 2 here in Ontario 🇨🇦. I often think of my great grandparents saying goodbye to 5 children. Never to return. Thankfully, today travel and technology allows one to never lose touch.
Our 4 children are all in different countries tonight, none of them Ireland.
I cannot tell you how disconcerting this is if you're still a parent of small people still clinging to your knees who won't let you out of their sight.

@HDE_Sheraby There was a reality tv show on TLC a few years ago called “Born This Way”. It followed the lives of young men and women with Down Syndrome. It was a wonderful show and ran several seasons. I was so disappointed when it ended.
@CraigBaird Lucy Maud Montgomery’s son Dr. Stuart MacDonald delivered me into this world. My mom told me as a youngster of my connection to Lucy Maud Montgomery and I have enjoyed her books and journal throughout my life. I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Stuart MacDonald’s daughter too!
Today in 1874, Lucy Maud Montgomery was born in Clifton, PEI.
Her most famous work is Anne of Green Gables, released in 1908. It has sold 50 million copies in 36 languages.
In her life, she wrote 20 novels, 530 short stories, 500 poems and 30 essays.
She died in 1942.
@NiallHarbison I just got word that your book 📖 is out for delivery 🚚‼️ I pre-ordered it months ago. I am so excited to read it. All the best from 🇨🇦‼️
Had to get 8 dog shelters moved to the land. Gave the driver the pick up location and presumed he would do 8 short trips. Nope
Gotta love Thailand. That man will be home for his dinner early 😎😅
@HDE_Sheraby I too chose KFC for my birthday 🎂 dinner in June. I hadn’t had KFC for about 5 years, but had a craving for it on my birthday. Dave and I must have similar tastes!
