While multiple Premiers abuse the notwithstanding clause to undermine the very purpose and spirit of the Charter — which is to uphold and enshrine human rights in Canadian law — Premier Kinew challenges this abuse as anti-democratic and anti-human rights. Good! More of this.
Wab Kinew@WabKinew

The Charter protects our freedoms — from a Hutterite community’s right to live by faith to a trans child’s right to be safe and seen. Our new law ensures any use of the notwithstanding clause goes before the courts — and the people. That’s democracy in action. 🇨🇦

@ErikLindy @Monetarius "Impoverishing"? As if you're the one who will directly benefit from reinvestment in coal. Trickle down economics doesn't work. If not for climate change, then at least protect biodiversity found in our province.

Can you answer the question? Of course not. We both know that nothing we do will change the weather. Impoverishing ourselves won’t change anything. Our actions change the environment, but how much is impossible to know. The world is getting warmer. Sort of. It’s still not as warm as it was 1,000 years ago. The effects of CO2 on global warming are still in dispute, but we know that extra CO2 is extremely beneficial for the growth of vegetation. Wouldn’t that be funny if in 100 years we were trying to increase CO2 levels to boost plant growth? Our grandchildren will look back on our actions to reduce CO2 as asinine. The world has been cooling for a very long time. Try to educate yourself. It’s more important to accommodate the climate than to change the climate.

The South Saskatchewan river is as low as I've ever seen it in my decade living in Saskatoon. The Prairie Lily can't sail...and yet Scott Moe has publicly declared that he will evade federal law that has been substantiated by the Supreme Court of Canada

I don’t know what to say to this either than we have a premier who does not understand treaties, how they are the Canadian laws of the land, and, that Ontario actually signed Treaty 9 where the Ring of Fire is located. Making racist comments like this are beneath his office.

Premier Doug Ford to First Nations: "There's going to a point where you can't just keep coming hat in hand all the time to the government. You gotta be able to take care of yourselves." Ford points to the gold mines and critical mines: "You're saying 'no, no, I don't want to touch that... by the way give me money.' Not going to happen," Ford says. #onpoli

MLA for the @musqueam ppl,@Dallas_Brodie, doesn’t agree with them renaming Trutch street. In fact she’s asking us to celebrate Joseph Trutch, a man who called First Nations “the ugliest and laziest creatures he ever saw”. I think I’ll pass on the celebration Dallas. @bcndp
Dallas Brodie@Dallas_Brodie

It’s not only impractical to impose indecipherable street names on residents. Why erase Trutch from our history? He wanted indigenous people to participate fully in society rather than being excluded on isolated Indian reserves. We should embrace that same spirit. We are stronger together!

Iran’s nuclear program has long been a cause of grave concern, and its missile attacks across Israel threaten regional peace. Today, I convened our National Security Council to receive an update on the situation and to ensure that all necessary steps will be taken to protect our nationals and our diplomatic missions in the region. Canada reaffirms Israel’s right to defend itself and to ensure its security. We call on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and move towards a diplomatic resolution.

Trudeau is gone, the carbon tax is gone, but the price of groceries is still exorbitant! If the bread price-fixing scandal in Canada wasn't corporate greed then I don't know what the hell is. Something needs to seriously change, food insecurity is real. cultmtl.com/2025/06/canada…
