Even in defeat the Tory MPs are talking in that tone of patronising entitlement about a 'lack of diagnosis' of how bad things were #bbclaurak -they didn't act because they didn't know? Perhaps it was too much blundering and plundering with the public purse, and we found you out.

Watching @bbcquestiontime I can only think of one question - "Do they blunder before they plunder, or plunder before they blunder?".

Credit where credit is due to #LNER for a first class apology to a previous train problem and major delay. We had a fabulous weekend away visiting our grandchild in a little luxury. Thank you.

If #LNER cancel the train before yours, it seems all seat reservations get cancelled, making it a race for a seat. There's no policy for those on a disability Railcard so it's very likely they are almost certain to lose a seat as they can't reach/find one quick enough. Fair?

@LNER Kgx to Leeds 14:03. We are just being towed back to Stevenage. A half size train is going to take us on but this one has the previous train's (cancelled) extra passengers already ie standing room only.

@LKTranslator Laura if you were my age you would know the answer. During the late 1970’s period of inflation, it started with Govt employees, who won higher salaries. Then we saw strikes for the private sector. Result inflation at a run rate of 28%

@DrFayND @DAaronovitch ...Weakly elitist about being accused of being elitist. Arguments were left to spirited outliers when they should have recognised the risks and worked together to show the value of HE to everyone else.

@terrymc @DAaronovitch Errrr? You sound like someone who is very bitter. What did U.K. university research do that you so disapprove of? As an academic one of the 4 criteria that I was measured against was how my work was reported and covered in mainstream media or was public facing.

@DrFayND @DAaronovitch I am bitter. I don't disapprove of university research at all but I do disapprove of relying on the MSM to communicate it effectively for you. I'd guess the measures were not ones you would choose yourself. My general point is that the HE sector were...

@DrFayND @DAaronovitch UK universities didn't wish to engage with 'the great unwashed' and allowed themselves to be cast as elitist by not providing the evidence and engagement necessary with the general public and particularly the media. "Let's pop to Grimsby docks for another balanced opinion..."

@DAaronovitch I don’t care how we undo Brexit. U.K. university research is dead unless we do. Do it incrementally, I don’t care, just get it done.

@bbcquestiontime The BBC is failing in several areas of its work too, such as providing accessible scrutiny, rather than sailing along the gutter and describing the "perfume". We wouldn't be in this mess if people understood the consequences and saw through the fog. Where are your searchlights?

@BordGaisEnergy Loved tonight's #showstoppers of the Eiffel Power - but my suggestion was, in my head, The Eye-full Power. Ces't une double-entendré innit? (Bordeaux accent)

@VivienRolfe And his front room cronies in the BBC: "let's go to Grimsby docks and ask the ordinary man in the street what we think about Brexit" etc.

@Peston They'll do it. They have the BBC covering it, keeping the public fully informed ;-). Boris will do "colouring in" with the kiddies while he ruins their futures.

@bbcquestiontime Voluntary stooge. The wonderful invited audience algorithm strikes again. Give him the first question - why don't you; why do you? It's time to move on only when lessons are learned and so far there is no real evidence of that.

@campbellclaret There used to be a bloke on the telly who liked gold, wore inappropriate clothing under a silly haircut, used a bit of distracting buffoonery while he plundered the trust of thousands if not millions. Harmless they said. Had the BBC on his side too. It's on the tip of my tongue..

From friend in military - ‘we take smartness and demeanour seriously. And we get this as the Christmas message to Armed Forces from our PM. Hair a mess, collar crumpled, tie not straight, stains on his suit. How are we expected to take message seriously when he looks like that?’
