Game of Thrones could have ended the show with Jon Snow killing the night king, Daenerys becomes the Queen, and the wheel has finally been broken. Just when it looks like it's a happy ending, Bran wakes up from one of his trances, his eyes open as he returns to the present day, revealing that all of Westeros is a complete wasteland. Everyone is gone. That would've been a more satisfying ending and I think everyone would've been happy with it.
