The time-based nature of hitting is critical to understand. There are not unlimited mechanical strategies to accomplish opening the bat's angle.

@TewksHitting I think it was a good thing. She realized who she was playing with and that they were new players who needed some help. She's competitive but not egotistical. We talk a lot about what our goals are and how new players need to play to develop. It's fun to see her help others.

Travel ball parents, instead of telling us how “good” at sport your kid is, tell us…
- how much fun they are having
- how much the team is improving
- how they are demonstrating ability to compete through adversity
- how they make their teammates better

@TewksHitting So, we have 2 12U teams, and my kid (a pitcher) helped our younger team fill the roster so they could field a tourney
Immediately frustrated with defensive struggles and low ball IQ, but quickly became supportive and helpful. Plus, REALLY appreciates her own team

Coaching 8u has been so fun. I hadn't coached teams in about 10 years and all of the problems from 10 years ago have only grown.
Lots of time and money being spent because, for the most part, parents are not informed consumers.

The lab has a role. The intent of the player is extremely important. Trying to become a better player is very different than trying to make the number higher.
In both cases, the number will probably go up. One becomes a tool. The other becomes a definition.

That article, to me, reads that Bazzana is an obsessed crazy person. I mean that as an extreme compliment IF becoming a top 0.0001% performer is the mission.
You have to feed that beast... most players don't even know there is a beast within them. Or it just might not be there.

Golf analogy: There's a big difference between the lab, the course, getting good at scoring and trying to be a long drive champion.
If you can't hit shots, you'll never score. If you can't hit shots under pressure, you'll never score. If you never practice scoring...

Many years ago the best way to get better at competing was to participate in a ton of competitions. With better training methods, now the best thing to do is train in a lab then go test the results in a competition.

When the hitter's mental model of the swing understands how/where the mechanical advantage happens, things change.
You can achieve better results with better positioning and understanding of timing, but when the mental model changes you enter a different realm.

Great swing mechanics result in a swing is dramatically shorter than other mechanical approaches.

Good hitting skill combined with swing mechanics with poor leverage is a dangerous combo. You’ll be afraid to change, but the ceiling is low.

I would LOVE to show up to games knowing the team we are playing "gets it." That the parents and coaches get it.
Showing up to a youth sporting event shouldn't carry so much tension and hostility.
Some parents are trying way to hard to influence outcomes from behind the fence.

The longer the swing, the more you have to time the swing.
The shorter the swing, the more you can time the ball.
(If you can’t time the hard one, either way, you can’t hit.)

We just got beat by a fast-but-not-that-fast pitcher, and it was entirely because our girls just weren't timing anything. Their approach was terrible in a way I hadn't seen from them before.

It is amazing when hitters learn how to control their weight and time the ball.
The swing happens when they want it to happen. On demand.
So much mental bandwidth is spent managing the bat due to mechanical disadvantage.
Bandwidth better allocated to seeing the ball.

Here's the data we had on the Flightline colt that sold for $10.5m yesterday at OBS. We have him a very high Breeze Rating of 94.56/100. Stride Length was recorded at 25.45ft in the Under Tack. (Which is massive) Stride Length in the Gallop Out was recorded at 23.26ft. Stride Frequency was 2.18sps in the UT and 2.15sps in the Gallop Out. UT Time was 9.30s, with a Gallop Out sectional of 10.70s.

I had an amazing day at the plate against Northridge! Our team secured the win 19-6! I tied the state record with 4 home runs in a single game, leading me to 8 RBI!
