The Mets need Juan Soto and Bo Bichette to carry this team. I have the utmost confidence that they can turn it around. For the season, Soto is hitting just .188 with RISP, while Bichette sits at .206, both well below their career norms. They went a combined 0-for in the Arizona series. If either one had come through even once, the mood would be very different right now as we head home to face Detroit. They’ve got 46 games between now and July 1st, more than enough time to climb back to .500 and still have a full month left before the trade deadline. I just need to see a proactive, aggressive approach with this roster to believe they can actually get it done. #LGM

@ATCNY I hate Stearns but Alonso is trash. I've never seen such a slightly above average player get more love. Add in the antics, the fraudulent smile, the gaming the team that offered him a 7 year deal he turned down to get zero other comparable offers, then we take him back for him.

I think the problem is that there were no options out there to replace Alonso's production. You might have thought that Alonso wasn't worth the money, or that the contract would age badly - but in the end of the day, there were no options to replace what he gave you. And when you sign an expensive Juan Soto to pick up some of the slack of the stats, not signing Alonso merely gets you back to mediocre. Let alone the franchise history of Alonso, the clubhouse, the fan base etc. - fans would have come out to watch Pete even if the Mets were losing - no one is coming to watch replacement try to bat cleanup. This was a fail in so many ways.
