Being Irish is becoming a GAA fan the one month every generation your county gets to a Sam final, it’s the inevitable heartbreak of rugby World Cup quarter finals, and it’s going wild as we punch way above our weight at the Olympics. Being Irish is growing up with Ted, Dougal and Jack, knowing who keeps their toaster in the cupboard, and who’s got a horse outside. Being Irish is a spice bag after Copper’s, or a chicken fillet roll in the morning, or mammy’s dinner cooked at home. Being Irish is knowing that McGregor is the worst cunt on the planet (but that you can be a good cunt too). Being Irish is knowing you’re probably never going to own a house and the lure of the Australian working tourist visa, the realisation that all your childhood friends now live in Sydney or San Diego. Being Irish is knowing the fear of leaving the immersion on. Most importantly, being Irish is knowing you can go to any city in the world and find a pub filled with your people, because the world truly loves the Irish. Why? @Returnofthe_old @Keithisi The Irish language is far from dead. That aside, either your ancestors were Gaelic (as you stated re. Dal Riada) and you betray them with your alignment (surrender) to the Saxon, or your ancestors weren't Gaels and you are just another planter complaining about being outplanted.

@gotrice2024 Met quite a few Japanese people over the years—fantastic human beings, every single one of them.

This young lady ordered a taxi fresh off the plane in Japan. She got in the back and got comfortable. She then asks how much the fare would be, after the conversion she found out it would be $213. After expressing concern over the price of the fare, the taxi driver helped her find a cheaper option. The taxi driver takes her to the bus station in a nice area with good shopping awhile she waits for the bus. The driver even asked her if she had cash because the bus was cash only, the young lady said she would go to an ATM, fearing the young lady would not have been able to get money out, she runs back to her cab and gets money out for her. It’s amazing to me that the taxi driver wasn’t willing to take advantage of the tourist. Not only did she find her a cheaper option, she even paid for it too, the world would be a better place if we all looked out for one another, wouldn’t it?

@AsianDawn4 Years ago, I used to play in a regular pub session in Bangkok. There was a loose group of musicians playing Irish trad and folk. The most accomplished musician amongst us was a Japanese fiddler who, without a word of English, moved to Co. Clare for several years to learn.
