@favour24x @SPGamersX @geoffkeighley I love how much people will lie to themselves that Destiny hasn't been one of the most successful IPs in the history of gaming that company after company bent over backwards to replicate the success of

@PaulTassi It’s surviving by selling Pokemon cards 2-3x over MSRP to a very desperate fan base. It’s a story you might find interesting to investigate.

@BigBox1598193 @PaulTassi Sony ensuring that Marathon doesn't result in immediate failure doesn't necessarily mean that the game will achieve long-term success. Large crowds actually need to want to play the game to make that happen.

@Necro_304Mav @PaulTassi There's also a lot of cherry picking going on when it comes to commenting on his coverage. He's expressed both praise and critique, and anyone who's watched his videos would know this. People don't know how to respond to nuanced journalism anymore.

@PaulTassi Even though I thought your reporting was/is too optimistic on the future of this game, its wild seeing the Bungie fans come at you this hard when you report some of the objective facts on the game's overall reception and your personal opinion on it

@PaulTassi I didn't give a shit about most of your opinions on the last video (you like what you like), I just found the random jab about no one playing for the story both unnecessary and untrue. Also, whether subconsciously or not, your opinion on Marathon has influenced your coverage lmao

@BigBox1598193 @PaulTassi Sony can't withstand another Concord situation in such close succession, which is something Paul has previously highlighted. They need Marathon to have a fair shot, otherwise this would reflect poorly on their standing as a publisher.

@thatnerdinnit @PaulTassi My concern is about the idea that Marathon is close to shutting down. I think the "good morale" report is fairly telling that that's not happening anytime soon.

@PaulTassi He sounds more out of reality than a young adult trying to explain how they are going to purchase a $60,000 car when their only income is from a basic fast food job, they have rent + other bills to pay and already live check to check.

@BigBox1598193 @PaulTassi Sentiments could have changed? A month is a long time in light of the game only having been released at the beginning of March. What "doomers"? Paul has inside sources at Bungie. Also, what about the people praising this game and ignoring the glaring flaws?

@thatnerdinnit @PaulTassi My memory could be failing me here, but I thought Tassi said "Morale is good on the Marathon team" last month and that they're "heads down on making new content". If true, I think those 300 - 400 people know more about the future of the game than the doomers on gaming Twitter

@Mythoclast_X @PaulTassi The problem isn't about a critique of older media, but rather the revisionist history mindset. How would you effectively comment on the surrounding mindset of an era you were never there to experience?

@PaulTassi Hey I am always on some longwinded rant about 2001 A Space Odyssey and that came out 16 years before I was even born. Just because you weren't born or even experienced it when it was released, doesn't mean you can't be an obsessed fan or have encyclopedia like knowledge about it.

@PaulTassi This whole situation is the real life economic equivalent of the laws of physics turning inside out in Destiny as the result of the death of a certain character. I don't know how Ryan thinks he can fake $12bn into existence by deflecting the question.

@PaulTassi Your opinions echo the sentiments of a key demographic in this whole situation: people who enjoy Marathon as a franchise yet can't bring themselves to get on board with the extraction shooter genre. In other words, customers that could have been and that the game needed. 2/2

@MallowTheQueen @PaulTassi Marathon was perfectly positioned to be a DOOM competitor, and there isn't a single doubt in my mind that had Bungie pursued this avenue the profits would have been astronomical. The main issue here has to do with wasted opportunity more than anything else.

@thatnerdinnit @PaulTassi I also was not a fan of Extraction Shooters before this. Arguably I'm still not. None of the others have grabbed me the same way. I also wanted a Doom 2016-style reboot. But approaching the game for what it is, instead of what I wished it was, allowed me to see how awesome it is

@MallowTheQueen @PaulTassi I agree that the lore and "story" builds off the original games in a good way, but the actual gameplay is what's holding things back. Extraction shooters just don't have mass appeal, and this is arguably the single greatest reason why Marathon isn't taking off.

@thatnerdinnit @PaulTassi It's fine not to like Extraction Shooters, but the existence of this game doesn't devalue the original trilogy. And the way it builds off those games is incredible. Genuinely a treat, and not something that would've been nearly as effective with a new or existing Bungie IP

@MallowTheQueen @PaulTassi There's a reason why the extraction shooter genre never really took, and adapting a single player FPS game to a whole new genre was a recipe for limited success. Many people love Marathon despite loathing the extraction shooters.

@PaulTassi My comment was about how Bungie does not owe people the same feeling game over and over again. They can and SHOULD experiment and branch out. Especially when many people wanted the game to feel like D2, which still exists. Your reply shows you too expect a formula to be stuck to

@vandalism_mth @PaulTassi This is what hurts so much about the current iteration of the franchise. The original trilogy was SP FPS, and a modern reboot of that genre would have done spectacularly. I feel like the Marathon IP has broader appeal than the game itself, largely due to being an ES.
