“I tire of variants on: in Vietnamese, a tonal language, ma can mean many things.” @sommainguyen argues that diasporic Vietnamese writers are too eager to signal authenticity, flattening themselves and Vietnam in the process: astra-mag.com/articles/blunt…

When a woman provides critical feedback, how does a man react? Do they calmly evaluate the ideas or become angered by the threat to their egos? We don’t have cross-nationally comparative data on this spectrum, but it’s an important aspect of ‘The Great Gender Divergence’.

The problem with infantile leftism is that its a reflex more than an ethic. It's all about satisfying an oedipal impulse rather than advancing the cause of justice, fairness, accountability. It is moral outrage decoupled from empathy.

approximately 90 percent of the people who use “independent thinking” in this way in a sentence are just talking about how they’re proud of believing the ideas of the gutter bigots of a hundred years ago
AG Todd Rokita@AGToddRokita

The constant hypocrisy from the media is at an all-time high. They have now gone after Kanye for his new fashion line, his independent thinking, & for having opposing thoughts from the norm of Hollywood. on.msnbc.com/3Cj6oL6

I wish some folks had never heard the phrase “No ethical consumption under capitalism” because it’s getting watered down to nothing. No ethical consumption under capitalism means perfect ethics aren’t possible under the current system. It doesn’t mean throw away ALL the ethics.

Aside from the “suffering circus” where we all are encouraged to clap instead of cry, I fear this is the consequence of living with Covid without massive structural changes. Sickness, lingering, permeating every inch of our existence. Constant, with no rest. This is the cost.

At this point asking for Chomsky’s opinion on international relations after his decades of Bosnian genocide revisionism says much more about the person asking the question than it does Noam Chomsky.

Then rejoice because Jose Rizal wasn't actually an ethnic Malay. He was of Tagalog and Chinese parentage. He identified as "Malay" in the racial sense as part of his pan-Malay movement that aimed to unite the people of the archipelago
