@stefan_mnl Socialism was an ideology born in Europe, as were communism and anarchism. Slavery was abolished. Europe is not all about individualism, and dismissing the everyman, those not part of the upper crust, as "the masses, the peasants", is wildly un-European. Feudalism is history.

Individualism is European Collectivism is third worldist Our focus should be on the individual. Their focus is on the masses, the peasants, the majority. Do you understand?

@leonidasboss @MbarkCherguia I was responding to the question in the post I was replying to (knowing that it's just engagement bait, but hey, bored right now). That's it. I'll leave you and your tangent alone and not indulge you.

@thayethaye @MbarkCherguia You are worried about 1 video im saying they litter and dump everything everywhere they don't care if its biohazardous or not. You don't have to be blind to it and pretend like you need to make a fresh judgement for this video 😂 Like "oh its clay" shut the fuck up

@pupsnase777 @denisyurchak If bike lanes were "useless"- as in not being used- they would not exist. Very obviously and heavily biased commentary from you on that.

@denisyurchak 2. Education is free if you want your kids to go to schools where 80% don't speak German. 3. You obviously never rode the U6 during summer. Yes there are lots of useless bike lanes, but simply because the socialist government hate people with cars. 6. I laughed a lot about that.

I pay 50% tax in Austria. Here is what my taxes here buy: 1. Friendly social climate The playing field in Vienna is extremely levelled out. There are some old-money folks and rich oil arabs who come to shop, but most people earn about the same. As a senior engineer, you will earn about 30% more than a waiter, not orders of magnitude like in Eastern Europe. A waiter may even earn more because they get tipped in cash. I go to a premium boxing club, and the people I box with are bus drivers, policemen, and teachers. People don't hustle too much, are chill and friendly. There is very little aggression on the street, as opposed to NYC or Warsaw, for example. There is no subservient attitude in the service sector, which people from the US and Eastern Europe perceive as bad service. 2. (Almost) free education Most state universities in Austria cost under 400 euros/semester. The quality of education is high, and you can go learn anything you want, any time. Most people stay enrolled in a uni "just in case", well into their 30s. Vienna attracts tons of students, and it creates a cool young vibe (not to mention a constant influx of really hot girls). 3. Insane infrastructure The streets and public transit in Vienna are clean like an OP room. The buses are plentiful and on time. The cars in big cities are absolutely useless – you can move faster with bikes or public transport. The bike lanes are world-class - riding a bike in Vienna is safe, fast, and enjoyable. 4. Nature protection The taxpayer bucks buy a very well-preserved nature and clean water. Vienna is one of the few cities in Europe with a swimmable river. Swimming in the Danube in summer is genuinely an unbeatable experience (and maintaining it costs a lot of taxpayer money). 5. Expensive restaurants Because of the high price of labor, restaurants are expensive (and also mid-quality). Eating out daily is not a thing. Some places offer business lunches called tages menu, but most people eat at home every day. 6. No corruption The police and government officials earn a lot. The risk of getting caught for bribes is high, so bribing here is unthinkable. You can still "arrange" stuff if you know the right people, but this only works for small things and really close connections. ––– Overall, I would say this lifestyle is worth it if you are a student or 50+, have kids, and just want to chill. If you are young and entrepreneurial, Austria might hold you back more than give you for the tax you pay.

@n00rdung @Andric1961 While having Latin roots, it may have been the word used for pancakes by Slavic peoples, who like so many other names later popularized the term in Vienna/Austria. Would be something I'd speculate, because the Germans aren't using it.

@n00rdung @Andric1961 I was under the impression and believe I was once told it was of Slavic origin. Guess it's not then, hm. I never bothered to check. Thanks for the correction.

@n00rdung @Andric1961 Not uncommon in Vienna, haha, and to some extent Austria broadly, as you probably know. It's why we say "Palatschinken" instead of "Pfannkuchen".

@JihadiAsuka @scareyjoe @salingergregor @nemoserves No one in Europe does either, or suggests that one should. Even if you don't have a car, like many Europeans who live in urban areas actually don't- just loan a truck for a few hours or have it delivered. Doesn't cost much. Much, much cheaper than owning a car.

why would one drive to a target anyway? I would just walk to the supermarket in my street
Steve@StvnAd

@JacobLeTrashe @salingergregor Europeans commenting on our rail system is always funny. You can tell the ones who’ve been here before and the ones who haven’t. Let me get in my car, drive to a train station, to go take a trip to the next city, only to have to uber to the target I wanted to shop at.

@cemk_cemil I'm a big proponent of a more strongly federalized EU, and of European solidarity and cooperation broadly, but point (i) is simply false. What's remarkable about the EU is it could unify a continent (most of it anyway) whose people have been at war with each other constantly.

@TrentTelenko You're an idiot. NATO is a defensive alliance. Defensive. The US can't invoke article 5 to demand aid in their offensive war against Iran.

Europeans have a real problem if Iran does escalate and Trump invokes NATO’s article Five. Trump is trying- and succeeding in my view - to make the case to the US public to withdraw from NATO. NATO nations refusing to support the USA after an Iranian act of war kill NATO. 1/2

@ottomanenglish I don't need to know anything at all about the details around this story to be able to know, beyond much doubt, that this must be dishonest framing. I'm very certain there were practical, completely apolitical reasons for why landing in Turkey seemed preferable.

@Tian_Longs @TheSaviour They don't, actually! Idk if that has become common with other flags these days, but EU flags are made to be almost impossible to burn by themselves (without soaking them in gasoline or something, I mean).
