Emergency Fellow. Coffee-fuelled, Exams done. Ready to step up for another shift on the front line. Hard job, but bloody rewarding. Opinions my own.

@DrEmmaDownie @LiangRhea Thats great initiative that you (and others) will get alot of benefit from. But it would be nice to have it embedded in your training so you can try to get some kind of a life outside work. Teaching is so important, the impacts of what we teach are so far reaching

Considering that 'education and teaching' is one of ten RACS competencies, there is insufficient education *about* teaching during surgical training. Discuss. 🤔 #SurgEd
Rhea Liang@LiangRhea

@roshni_beeharry @raquelpcorreia @aimeecharnell @OrthopodReg @anna_annabav One Friday I was a trainee. The following Monday I was a consultant with my very own trainee. In the whole of our long, arduous surgical training we had never been taught how to teach- but we'd seen a fair bit of 'how NOT to teach'. It was baptism by discombobulation 🤣.

@kdelo @DShadowgazer Of course they are. I was using the title of this comedy skit that is hilarious and teases human doctors. I hope you enjoy it.

veterinary radiology is wild. they’ll read a trauma head CT on a rabbit, MRI on an armadillo and then do an upper GI on a goat and act like that’s normal

@LiangRhea @_NMay @DrEricLevi @nattiejpk I far from have it all. I struggle with balance constantly and am not winning. I have no doubt though, when we look back on our lives when we are old, we wont care how many papers we wrote, and we'll be glad we had the childcare *opportunities

@theEMfellow @_NMay @DrEricLevi @nattiejpk I'm delighted to hear that you've figured out how to have it all. Unfortunately, the trends during #COVID19 have laid bare that more men had more freedom to write papers, and more women had less freedom due to childcaring responsibilities.

Yes, I do know when I’m scheduled to be on call until October 2021. There are many restrictions that comes with the healthcare vow. We’re committed and bound to the on call schedule till the day we retire. Some do more on call than others. That’s why some call it a calling.

@DrEricLevi @LiangRhea @_NMay @nattiejpk Its 2020. The year where everything is gender bias. 🤦🏼‍♂️ I struggle being a doctor and a dad too. I want more time with my kids and hate missing the milestones. Dad guilt is a big thing - Keep your chin up @DrEricLevi and if you find a solution, DM me!

@LiangRhea @_NMay @nattiejpk I take your point. But in doing that you have suddenly made me out to be someone who has luxuries and expectations. Perhaps my tweet was intended as a confession of a struggling surgeon and father rather than a gender bias comment?

@Aidan_Baron Agree. We need to remember that whilst it may feel inconvenient, its probably the worst day in this persons month-year-life Of course we need to consider service provision pathways and how to get them right, but when a patient is infront of you, just help them

This is your periodic reminder that telling the public “we are busy please only call us / come here in an emergency” when you ARE an emergency healthcare service is the height of folly. Plan and invest better in your escalation and surge triage systems Stop patient blaming

My kid knows Boba Fett from Star Wars and I know him from the Mandalorian so we are currently fighting about if he is a good guy or a bad guy.

This was awhile back. He’s told I’m right and he backs off. I report his behavior and, surprise, no repercussions for him. Calls me “DOCTOR” every time we interact for a few months and eventually learns to stop trying to get under my skin because I never let him 🤷🏾‍♀️

#ToxicMedicine I got a call from one of our NPs that a neurosurgeon was berating him and the icu nurses about why his postop patient was in the icu. He brought one to tears and was yelling at the charge as well. So I called.

@drnikkistamp @WSJ I dont think its a gender issue. But i guess everything is guys vs. Girls in 2020. Academics get mocked all the time (unfairly) - why dont we focus on supporting everyone on the wrong end of unfairness 🤷‍♂️

@MallinsonT @kari_jerge @MrsPA_C Yeah I use U/S so if thats a deal-breaker, so be it. But hey, nothing wrong with ketamine, works great and will always be a reasonable option and in alot of cases will remain the best option. Try 5min sono @UltrasoundMD or the ultrasound podcast guys.

@johnaharvin @bryanacotton1 @shane_jensen19 Interesting. Will get the full text. Whilst these findings (I assume) wont be strong, Im not sure CRASH 3 made me super excited about TXA in TBI. I genuinely dont think we're saving lives.

@bryanacotton1 @shane_jensen19 When a clinical trial shows harm with TXA given within 3 hours, I will believe it. This observational study proves nothing. Feelings don’t trump facts.

@phantasmagora @kari_jerge @MrsPA_C Apologies. Tweet sent whilst looking after my kids - hence brief. Lots of ways to get the job done. But as someone who has done chest drains a long time as well, you should genuinely try it

Is there any trickier anaesthetic procedure than placing an NG in an intubated patient?
