When simulation becomes the norm, it weakens the human capacity for discernment. As a result, our social bonds close in upon themselves, forming self-referential circuits that no longer expose us to reality. We thus come to live within bubbles, impermeable to one another. Feeling threatened by anyone who is different, we grow unaccustomed to encounter and dialogue. In this way, polarization, conflict, fear and violence spread. What is at stake is not merely the risk of error, but a transformation in our very relationship with truth.

one of my favorite things about Italian industry is they clearly have an exceptional amount of technical skill, but seem to only put it in service of the most frivolous, over-the-top inventions
like i saw a video about MullerOne, a device invented in Italy to humanely extract the goo from snails, which is apparently quite good for the skin
(traditional methods involve stressing the snail out until they goo more, but the inventor noted that they also goo when they're more relaxed and happy, so he made a snail-heaven-machine)
but the amount of R&D needed for such a machine was probably immense. all in the service of snail goo

I once bartended with a Raw Vegan (only ate like, salads, essentially), who was also the most irritable, reactive person I've ever met. she was always mixing some sort of honey-cayenne-tea concoction for her perpetual headache and it's like, girl.
