Often times, we hear things like “a simple toothache can end your life.” It sounds dramatic, but sometimes it’s true. One dangerous example is Ludwig’s angina. It is a severe infection that starts from a tooth, usually a lower molar, and spreads rapidly into the floor of the mouth and neck. As the infection spreads, the tissues swell and become hard, pushing the tongue upward and backward.

Nigerian Lady makes history as the first Black African female Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon (OMFS) from the University of Connecticut, United States. Meet Dr. Faith Ajiboye (B.MLS, MBA, MD, DMD). She overcame doubts and discouragement when many told her it was "impossible" and that she wasn’t "the type" for the field. After 14 years of higher education, including medical school, dental school, and OMFS residency, she has completed her training and is now a practicing Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon. A full-time OMF surgeon, mom of two young children, and pastoring a church alongside her husband, Dr. Faith remains deeply grateful for the journey. To every young dreamer: Don't be discouraged by how long or hard the road seems. Keep going, stay consistent, and never let anyone talk you out of your purpose. The sacrifice is always worth it.

I've had a couple of experiences that will surely live with me forever as a doctor. I shared a pleasant one recently but truth is I've had many unpleasant ones Her name was Faith and she was just 14! That Sunday evening I was at the Emergency as a house officer when sounds of sirens racked everywhere filling the air. A family of 5 were being rushed to the emergency. Faith, her mum and siblings were engulfed in a fire accident In few hours, we lost mum and a daughter and in another few days on admission, the others died leaving only Faith so she had to be isolated and sold a lie that the others were fine and kept in another hospital Great fighter, absolutely great fighter! For 6 weeks this young girl battled crazy pains from wound dressing and medical intervention. Couldn't even afford the "luxury" of a central line. We did numerous cut down. Girl suffered terribly and at some point she began to really hate eggs She wasn't my primary patient but I was really interested so after my rounds, I'll wait patiently after her wound dressing sessions and the pains to relieve a bit before going to her bed side to just spend time with her, sometimes with scanty conversations many times in silence. I did this every day and had no idea she was growing very fond of me Then one day amidst our conversations, I told her about Jesus and the possibilities of the abundant life in him. She listened with wrapt attention and tears in her eyes then I messed up. Told her I'll give her time to think about all we've said and I never came back😩 For one week following that conversation, I didn't make it to her ward and when I breezed in, I saw her seriously deteriorated with teary eyes, longing for a conversation like someone who had missed someone very dear so I quickly went to her bedside. At that point I had become family and my heart tore so I quickly told her I'll come see her after the clinic🥹 Came back in the afternoon and Faith was gasping, rescucitation started and failed. She passed in my front and that was the close of the chapter of a whole family. I was traumatized and hurt for weeks and only hope she made something from those conversations
