@CanadianKayMD @doclauravater When Mom passed away in August, she had been in the Queen Elizabeth ER. The ER doctor caring for her went off duty, and transferred her care. But he took the time to call me the day after she passed. I thought that was so kind of him.

@doclauravater When one of my patients dies, I always have the team pause for a period of silent reflection. I usually help tidy up and reflect on what I know of the patient as a person, which can be a surprising amount, and I fill out the death certificate slowly and very neatly with care.

Each morning before clinic, I look at my list of patients for the day and pray for each person: For peace and presence during our time together, for insights into their care, for their wellbeing and healing, and for their families. Do you have rituals in your practice?

Well, when Vanessa booked her flight to come to the Island for Moms service, she certainly wasn’t expecting an extra few days here, having to cancel another week of work, and now facing another family loss back in BC—all because of the Air Canada strike.

After 5 days in hospital, Mom passed peacefully last night in a beautiful comfort room at QEH. Grateful for the wonderful care from Dr. Jasnik, Dr. Murphy, and the kind nurses. Dr. Murphy even called today to offer condolences. @TrevorJain @InfoPEI

Well if someone told me last week I would be off on compassionate leave with Mom - how fast your life can turn around in 1 week. Really not sure how I can do this financially but have to!

💙 RAVE for the incredible QEH ER staff last night! 💙 I had to bring my mom to the ER around 8 PM and, like most of us, we expected a long wait — and yes, we waited. But during that time, I had the chance to really observe the staff in action. A huge shout out to the ER staff!

Some days it is mentally draining caring for a sick parent/working full time and trying to keep the smile on your face at work, but all you want to do is curl up and have a good cry! 😢

Doug Currie is now unable to seek the Federal Conservative nomination in Charlottetown. In a statement today the party says during a review of his nomination application it "identified several serious misrepresentations and violations of the Party’s nomination rules." More at 6
