@Ragcha @Noahpinion You are delusional if you don’t think California’s housing policy is the fault of Democrat policitians. They’ve destroyed those markets through policy, and even the NIMBYs have outsized influence compared to red states

Yes, it is not clear enough to Dems what they need to do differently. Lots of confusion about what people believe vs reality. Like how much of the inflation spike that happened after Covid was their fault? And how much do people think Dems were pushing transgender surgeries on children at public schools? And how much do people think immigrants are criminals compared to Americans? And how much do people think that California’s homelessness is based on liberal policies vs. conservative NIMBYism?

Great. Try and implement the parts you like and you ll find that's a lost cause. The reason is because in America, capital has all the political power. In China, the Party does. That's why Bezos and Musk could commit any crime they want and not be in jail in America and in China the moment Jack Ma decided to go against the party he was asked to "self reflect in meditation" in a place without his family and friends being able to contact him. And why Didi got buried in red tape when it chose to go IPO before the Party felt comfortable with the tech not being able to be used for various foreign operations, and killed off it's initial valuation. You can't make economic growth work for the people of capitalists control the political system. You can have what America has. And that's why America has created one trillionaire whole China lifted 900+ million from poor onto the middle class.

And how did China do that? It wasn’t through “socialism.” That was Mao’s project. The cultural revolution killed tens of millions of Chinese through dumbass collectivism. Then Deng allowed for markets. And boom, hundreds of millions were lifted out of poverty. China held on to command and control politics but introduced limited freedom in economics and did more to alleviate poverty than socialism ever did. But you people envy the authoritarianism and so you lie and propagandize for it. Shame on you.
Paweł Wargan@pawelwargan

In my lifetime, China lifted 850 million people out of poverty, while the US created one trillionaire. It is clear as day that socialism is the key to our future.

@JasonIn16370144 @JonahDispatch Yeah, China has 1.4 billion people and was brutally impoverished (and dying) under Mao. They could only go up, and used capitalism to do it. Also Chinese poverty rate: 15% Chinese household millionaires: 1% US poverty rate: 10% US household millionaires: 18%

@JasonIn16370144 @JonahDispatch I do….the capitalist aspects of China are great. It’s the single party, authoritarian rule part that isn’t. But since you’re a socialist, you can’t get enough of that. Long live the vanguard party comrade!

That's not peripheral theory, and in the age of Google you could have just looked it up before responding. But if you are convinced China is more capitalist now, and of it's results are so impressive under "capitalism" why don't you advocate for that kind of "capitalism" on your country?

@MEVANS72 @rodsteele11 Then maybe instead or increasing taxes, they should demonstrate at least once that they can balance a budget. Why would anyone want to pay more taxes if the government is going to run a deficit regardless?

@rodsteele11 I don’t disagree with you. Government waste is appalling. On the other hand, my aged family members rely on Medicare and Social Security, both government funded programs. I’m guessing you have relatives similarly situated. Those programs are insolvent as soon as 2032.

We can also grow the pie by taxing billionaires. Done right, they can grow the pie for society (& thus create stronger consumers) & continue to grow their own wealth. McKenzie Scott started with $32 billion, has given away $26 billion so far, & is still worth between $32B & $42B

@JasonIn16370144 @JonahDispatch Yes, the refinements were abandoning traditional Marxist theory and accepting that capitalist mechanisms within the private sector are required for a functioning economy. But that’s not socialism, it’s a mixed economy, and in China, increasingly more private as time has gone on

If you haven't read anything besides Karl Marx, that would explain why you don't understand. The two principal refinements of Marx's doctrine by Lenin (esp peripheral theory) are key to understanding it, and of course Chinese a refinements to said Theory such as Deng Xiaoping Theory.

@JasonIn16370144 @JonahDispatch So with china increasing private ownership year over year for decades, to where it accounts for more than half of their GDP, that’s Marxist socialism? Marx was like “Seize the means of production, but then like, stop seizing most of it after”

@brklynmind @SethBorman @arpitrage Some of the most affordable places on the planet are in the sun belt when looking at income to housing cost ratios. All due to market forces. But I have a feeling that’s not exactly what you’re trying to achieve

@SethBorman @arpitrage Our economy isn't large & doesnt grow because we spend 2x the amount on healthcare & get generally worse results, its in spite of that. Imagine our economy plus where people could freely quit jobs they hate or are bad at & take ones they want, in places with affordable housing.

@Vladimiracle @Jodyjtaylor @JonahDispatch Believe it or not, scaling businesses in sectors with large incumbents and high barriers to entry internationally is just as hard as having a good idea. I'm going to offer a mild defense here and note that "I started the incident but then they made me scared so obviously I had a right to kill them" is a belief that conservative white people espouse with extreme regularity, do I understand feeling like there's a double standard.

@defigosha @_Credible_Hulk You’re missing in the violent expropriation of property, dictatorial rule and silencing of political dissent that is fundamental to Marxist, Leninist, Maoist beliefs in achieving the ideal state. It’s a euphemistic way of saying “we will kill everyone who opposes us”

I am curios. You really think there is no difference here? Genuinely curious Nazism’s “ideal point” — that is the theoretical society they propose necessities killing of tens of millions Communisms “ideal point” (it is impossible of course) — that is a theoretical society where goods have no relative value and everyone leaves equally Not denying that attempts at communism killed tens of millions, not in the slightest. However this is genuinely not the same, at least from theoretical standpoint. At least how I see it, happy to read the rebuttal to that
