After trying out literally every prompting library / spec driven development / meta prompting framework / skill plugin, I now went back to rawdogging Claude. Turns out I have a much better feeling for what the fuck is going on doing this. All specs turn out to hide implementation behind so much gibberish that I can literally not understand tf I’m implementing

🔨 Day 2 of 30 building in public Where I am at now: 📱 Tangoo - Learn Japanese 140k downloads, 5k MAU, 5 subscriptions (27$ MRR) -> 0.1% conversion rate Made 4 big updates in the past 10 days: • Full redesign • Migrated to Revenue Cat (I had my own purchases implementation before) • Changes to try improve conversion • IOS version: Currently stuck in Apple Review (for 10 days now, with 2 metadata-related rejections) My main explanation for the low conversion rate: Its freemium and I gave away WAY too much for free, the app was Android-only, much of my user base is in SEA which has VERY low willingness to pay. But there are some other reasons, which my updates address. Will share more! Also VERY curious to see how the IOS conversion will compare to Android. 📱 Orbis: Learn Geopolitics • 10 downloads, 5 active trials ( 3 of them are my friends lol - but still 2 real users started a trial!) • Started posting on Instagram (12 posts, 11 followers) • Currently working on 1 last, big update. Implementing a bunch of feedback from me and friends using the app Once the update is shipped (will submit in the next 3 days) I will stop building and focus 100% on marketing and do some kind of "launch". I will share more on my marketing/growth plan soon. (Note the RevenueCat screenshot is not fully accurate because I just migrated Tangoo to it, so it doesn’t count all users and subscribers yet)

🔨 Day 1 of 30 of building in public Who am I and what I am building? 2 months ago I quit my job at an AI startup in London, burned out. Last month I went on a one-way plane to Bangkok to build my own apps. Now I am starting a “build in public” challenge. For the next 30 days I will share everything: revenue, downloads, wins, screwups. Me: I’m Daniel, 29 years old. Grew up in a small German town. I studied math and was gonna go into finance. But during the pandemic I got stuck in my hometown and decided to build a startup with friends. Even though it wasn’t successful in the end, I taught myself coding and fell in love with building stuff. Got my first job at SAP in Berlin, then moved to a scale-up company in London, and lastly to the AI early-stage startup. Got burned out at each job because I hate Jira tickets and standups. My goal: Get to 20k MRR and travel the world App #1: Tangoo - Learn Japanese • “Swiss Army knife” for learning Japanese: dictionary plus flashcards, reading, listening, grammar etc • Launched over 1 year ago, Android only • 140k downloads, great reviews, solid engagement • BUT: currently 5k MAU and only 5 paying users (27$ MRR). Which means an INSANELY LOW conversion rate of just 0.1% • Many learnings here, which I will share in the next days • IOS version currently in review App #2: Orbis: Learn Geopolitics • Big, new passion project, BUT zero market validation yet and it’s extremely ambitious. back at university I did this exchange program in texas with a bunch of German students. I proposed volunteering at the migrant resource center of San Antonio to help the "Asylanten" (asylum seekers). one of those German students was immediately triggered by the word and corrected me to use "Flüchtlinge" (refugees) instead. but when asked if he wanted to join he said, nah, he'd rather not because he's scared of catching a disease from them. The hypocrisy was palpable.

I find most “ambitious” people deeply unambitious. There are two types of ambition: The first is “goalmaxxing,” where you pick a goal (e.g. building a company, making money, being an athlete) and try to become the best possible at that thing. You sacrifice other desires to achieve maximum, one-dimensional success. The second is “lifemaxxing,” where you set your desired constraints (e.g. where you want to live, how you want to spend your time) and goals and try to achieve all of your goals given the constraints. When Silicon Valley says “ambition,” they mean the former. But I find it fundamentally unambitious to do anything but lifemax. Those that don’t either are falling into mimetic desire and chasing what they think other people see as ambitious, or they are taking the easy way out no matter how hard their life seems to be. You need to be lifemaxxing.
