It's pretty crazy to compare the bodycams of police officers harassing and arresting white NFL players who are being cooperative, versus police officers politely attempting to deescalate with black NFL players who are going crazy and disobeying repeatedly on camera.

@Danny_Ketch_ @Strangeazulmoon Radio signals drop in strength equal to the square of the distance traveled. Even at one light year out you’re talking about a signal so faded as to be nearly indistinguishable from background radiation, let alone 100 or 1,000ly out

@thecathguy @Strangeazulmoon If another civilization had developed radio a few thousand years earlier (a blip on a geological timescale) then we would see them from thousands of light years away. They might not see us yet, but we'd see them. It's *strange* that we see no alien radio signals in our galaxy.

I know no sci-fi fan wants to hear this but I think the answer really just is that interstellar travel is basically impossible. Or rather that interstellar civilization is impossible. Plus space is huge
Alex Hollings@AlexHollings52

My issue with the Fermi Paradox is the assumption that intelligence is a natural by-product of evolution. Dinosaurs were in charge for about 500 times longer than we have been, but never got around to inventing the radio. Our love for tech might make us the galactic weirdos.

@benljbrooks I think it’s possible we might, but it would have to be on generation ships filled with people who understand they’re never coming back. When even simple communication takes years and years and traveling around subjects you to relativity, it becomes infeasible
