Despite some claims to the contrary, the consensus of the climate science community is that surface warming halts when carbon emissions reach zero. I recently summarized the most comprehensive & authoritative study by the leading scientists in the field: livescience.com/planet-earth/c…

There is a lot happening in the news these days, but it seems like we should be paying a bit more attention to the fact that the world just saw its hottest day on record (in absolute terms), coming on the back of 13 straight record setting months:

🇪🇨 Historic news today - a court in Ecuador rules that pollution ‘violates the rights’ of the river running through Quito. Ecuador is one of the few countries that recognises the rights of nature not to be degraded or contaminated… UK, take note 🙏🏼 euronews.com/green/2024/07/…

In the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, with more than a million people without power in Houston and heat index forecast to hit 101 degrees in coming days, I'm re-upping this piece I wrote last month about the dangerous confluence of blackouts and extreme heat. nytimes.com/2024/06/03/opi…

Rare event! Competing heat domes in the Southeast and Southwest US crank out two huge all-time record highs. Palm Springs 124 and Raleigh=Durham 106 with a heat index of 118! Las Vegas is forecast to break their all-time high this weekend and even Death Valley may come close.

Wow the heat across #Australia is relentless over the next few days. What will this part of the Earth look like at 2°C over baseline, which could happen within 20 years? The interior will become an oven. Coastal areas may become uninhabitable also for long periods due to wet bulb temperatures.
