I'm very proud to have my first byline in the @WSJ today, talking about fundamental problems with PEN America's report on Jewish and Israeli exclusion in publishing, and how that was highlighted by their president's resignation in protest. Gift link below, and some quotes. "PEN’s article is important and revealing, bringing together substantial evidence of the exclusion of Jewish and Israeli writers from publishing. It is also, in many ways, a failure. ... When PEN discusses Gaza, it speaks in declarative sentences. When it discusses Jews, it retreats into attribution. Jewish and Israeli writers “feel” that the literary world is shutting them out. They “describe” an environment that has harmed their reputations and livelihoods. PEN says that it is difficult to assess how much of what writers are experiencing “reflects matters of business or taste.” It is hard to imagine PEN would explain away the exclusion of another disfavored minority’s books as a question of “business or taste.” ... Yet even when the litmus test is stated openly, PEN can’t manage to be clear about what it has documented. The article mentions antisemitism as one possible cause and quotes others who identify it directly, but PEN itself never adopts antisemitism as the central explanation for the pattern its reporting reveals. At one point, PEN veers toward moral clarity. The article acknowledges that the accounts reveal “blatant hostility, discrimination, and hate.” That should have been the thesis, not an aside. @MegKeene You are really doing important work. I’ve been outlining a fantasy novel with Jewish themes, and I’ve been hesitant to move forward. You are giving me hope.

After WAY too many data points, I’d like to express real rage at Jewish authors deliberately concealing their identities because it lets them stay cowardly but safe, at other Jewish writers expense. Conversely, a big thank you to Amy Winehouse for getting me through this.

My mom died when I was 17. I only have a handful of pictures and zero videos of her. A couple years ago, on my birthday, I got a text from a number I didn’t recognize. It simply said “happy birthday” with a YouTube link. I clicked it and my heart stopped. It was my mom. I had to pull over immediately. She was telling me how proud she was of me and how she wondered what I’d become. Maybe a policeman, a preacher, or even a clown. I couldn’t believe it. Well, it turns out the random phone number was my friend Jon’s dad, who had found this video on an old VHS tape they made before a 1999 school event. I was 16. This experience got me thinking... what if we could have one last conversation with someone we lost? 🚛 The Crossing Over Express is now on @X 👻

@mcuban @amazon 2/because I reported them to Amazon. I wrote a letter to Bezos, who had actually gotten back in touch with me a couple of years before when I had some problems with our account. But he never responded. No one cared.

@mcuban @amazon 1/Look, I was a new entrepreneur. Our product was very easy to knock off. I get it. What bugs me, is they are allowed to sell the knock offs for a quarter of the price. And like I said, one of the actors contacted us and told me he would punish us by selling it extra cheaply….

How did @amazon respond ? Anyone else have similar experiences ?

@thedavidsobel @mcuban @ArtCandee @KamalaHarris Wow I was expecting our pending patent would help but now I’m losing hope. Amazon is enabling the proliferation of low quality goods made from stolen IP and they should be held accountable.
