@thegame50fitty @shaynagoldman_ No, after 3, he would be RFA. What is best, losing him for noting with a 5 years contract or being forced to trade him after 3 years, you are sure to get something back, but you migh lose an elite player quicker.
English

really like the 5-year term for Bedard -- should help him juice that next contract even more when he's 26. wonder if other young stars take note of that from Bedard, Carlsson etc

Once Connor Bedard learns how to play without the puck, it's over for everyone. Upside is still enormous and he flashed it to start last season before injury. It wouldn't be a shock to see him become worth $15M during this deal, but for now he's still a work in progress.
English

@MathVRenaud @shaynagoldman_ If he signed a three year deal he could force his way out in two years with four words: "I am not re-signing."
English

@thegame50fitty @shaynagoldman_ You are right, but at this point sign him for a 3 years contract. I wasn't sure about the age for the UFA status.
English

@TopTierPucks @SleeperNHL @HockeyVice_ @hockeyalchemy Saw this and just checked to make sure I wasn't following you. That Oilers call is career ending.
English

@MathVRenaud @shaynagoldman_ Thought they bought one UFA year.
English

@thegame50fitty @shaynagoldman_ Not really because he would have stayed RFA.
English

@MathVRenaud @shaynagoldman_ 4 years would have been worst case scenario, with 3 years closely behind.
English

@shaynagoldman_ GM are kinda dumb, they are risking to lose their franchise players for nothing. Go truly short term at 3-4 years or go all in. It’s really the worst case scenario for Chicago.
English

@Sapsterr_ And I look forward to welcoming him to the squad. Caleb should make a sick 2C.
English

@thegame50fitty You maximize your RFA leverage into being closer to UFA type leverage while also accounting for the Cap Ceiling rise.
English

If you can't see the parallels between this situation and the Hughes one, you're being a touch ignorant.
The main difference however is that while the Canucks lost Hughes because of their ineptitude, the concern is the Canucks would screw up being the team on the other side of the coin.
If he really wanted to just maximize his earnings, he would have signed a 3 year deal.
Tytan Durgan@tdurgan13
If you were hoping the Bedard deal would stop rumors surrounding him leaving, it unfortunately may do the opposite Bedard's 5 x $15M deal will take him directly to unrestricted free agency at the age of 25, where he can walk from Chicago and give a team 8 years of his prime
English

@Sapsterr_ Holy typos - surprised you could read my post 😂. With lower AAV, signing bonuses, and time value of $ factored in, I'm skeptical the 3-yr year bridge maximizes earnings unless market tanks. Conor also needs to factor in his shoulder. I'd say he chose wisely.

We think of this evil as Marxism. In reality, Marxism is nothing more or less than the current instantiation of a much more ancient evil: possession by the envious and hateful spirit that drove Cain to murder his brother Abel.
The great book of Genesis thus portrays mankind as riven by an eternal fratricidal conflict.
Those who reject genuine sacrifice become embittered by their subsequent failure ("rejection by God").
Instead of repenting and changing, they turn to revenge.
And who do they target? Those who strive to do well and offer what is best.
I can't believe how much wisdom the author of Genesis 4 compressed into that story's few sentences. You might even come to believe that God Himself had a hand in it.
Truly: it's uncanny. The first two human beings born into history are, respectively, a good, honest productive man and his brother, who allows himself to be consumed by resentment and the desire to destroy.
Communism, in a nutshell.

@JarrydJaeger Great question, kudos. He didn't answer, but keep it up!

Today I asked Premier Eby where he draws the line between free speech and criminal speech.
He told me government must be “extremely careful” because making certain viewpoints illegal can inadvertently legitimize them.

@WayneWaldropW Good evidence. Answer is no but I'm also not a psycho so...
English

@ChesterM222 They should trade Petey and Hronek to load up on futures, get Dupont, then buy Macklin. Worst case they screw over San Jose.
