This week, UN Women Ukraine joined global leaders at the 29th International Meeting of Mine Action National Directors & UN Advisers #NDMUN29 in 🇨🇭Geneva — a key platform convened by @UNMAS and @theGICHD to drive coordination, share expertise, and strengthen mine action efforts worldwide under the theme “One Humanity.”
Together with its partners, @mineconomdev, @Demine_Ukraine, @DefenceU, @bbcmediaaction, @godivchata and Ukrainian Deminers Association, @unwomenukraine brought forward a critical message: gender equality must be at the core of humanitarian mine action to ensure more effective recovery and safer communities.
🇺🇦 Drawing on #Ukraine’s experience, the discussion showcased how localizing gender in mine action — including through the #SheDemines programme — can strengthen outcomes when women are actively engaged and represented in operational roles in humanitarian mine action.
The conversation reinforced a shared commitment: ensuring women’s meaningful participation in humanitarian mine action is not only a matter of equality, but a key driver of more sustainable, impactful recovery efforts.

Technology used in contemporary conflicts is evolving faster than the systems designed to respond to its humanitarian consequences, with the full-scale invasion of Ukraine at the forefront of this transformation.
At the @UNDP-led meeting at #NDMUM29 in Geneva, experts highlighted how drones are reshaping explosive risks:
📍 Up to 30% of incidents in Ukraine are now drone-related;
📍 Risk extends dozens of km beyond the frontline;
📍 Even cleared areas can be re-contaminated;
📍 Unexploded items now come in many shapes and forms, increasing risks for civilians and children.

GRIT, a data-driven 🇺🇦 platform for humanitarian demining, has been presented at #NDMUN29 in Geneva!
Supported by @UNDP, GRIT integrates 100+ datasets to analyze risks and impact – helping prioritize areas and estimate clearance costs.
At the presentation, Ben Lark, @UNDPUkraine's Mine Action Programme Manager, said UNDP is now in talks on further support for the tool’s development, as sustaining this tool is critical to Ukraine for maximizing resources and returning land to productive use.
