Over the last 60 years, no medical specialty has had more innovation than cardiovascular medicine, and no cardiologist has been more impactful than Dr Eugene Braunwald. Researcher, clinician, teacher, and mentor to countless doctors. His textbook of cardiovascular disease has been the standard for decades. A legend. May his memory be a blessing.

We deeply mourn the passing of Dr. Eugene Braunwald, one of the most influential figures in cardiovascular medicine. His work reshaped how medicine approaches cardiovascular disease and the resilience of the human heart. His influence lives on in the guidelines, in the physicians he trained, and in the patients whose lives were quietly extended by his curiosity. Dr. Braunwald’s legacy will continue to guide and inspire us for generations to come. Over seven decades, his work reshaped the understanding and treatment of heart disease, leading many to call him the father of modern cardiology. Braunwald was a lifelong contributor to the American Heart Association, helping advance its research and scientific mission, and was honored with some of the Association’s highest honors for his lasting influence on cardiovascular care and research.
