Sugar statues are supposed to be a metaphor for how something sweet and “innocent” has a deeply dark and painful history rooted in colonialism, slavery and the brutal treatment slaves endured to produce sugar for Europe. So to see white people smile and lick them is very eerie.

This is why I really don’t get how people can defend capitalism. Why is this even allowed? Hurricanes and natural disasters happen and cannot be avoided. What can be avoided is companies legally being allowed to take advantage of citizens for profit.
